  1. 1. PACAP and orphanin FQ/nociceptin -Distribution, importance and regulation in sensory neurons and spinal cord

    Författare :Lina Pettersson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; trk; spinal cord; sensory neuron; rat; PAC1; PACAP; ORL1; OFQ N; neurotrophin; neuropeptide; nerve transection; nerve compression; inflammatory pain; BDNF; DRG;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide expression in the nervous system is abundant and plastic, and an altered expression after injury is an example of a functional response, helping the neuron to cope with adverse changes, and involves effects on differentiation, synthesis, repair/regeneration, survival, and modulation of signal transmission. I have investigated the distribution/expression of the neuropeptides, orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP), under normal conditions, in response to nerve injuries, and also studied sensory responses in mice deficient for the PAC1 receptor (PAC1-/-). 2. 2. Extraocular Muscles in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

    Författare :Anton Tjust; Fatima Pedrosa Domellöf; Mona Lindström; Thomas Brännström; Eva Hedlund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALS; EOM; Satellite cells; innervation; neuromuscular disease; neurodegenerative disease; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease of motor neurons characterized by muscle paralysis and death within 3-5 years of onset. However, due to unknown mechanisms, the extraocular muscles (EOMs) remain remarkably unaffected. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Vaginal prolapse surgery : an epidemiological perspective : studies of native tissue repair versus implants, surgeons´ practical experiences and five year follow-up in the swedish national quality register for gynecological surgery

    Författare :Emil Nüssler; Mats Löfgren; Marie Bixo; Martin Stjernquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :pelvic organ prolapse; Kaplan-Meier curves; long-term follow-up; quality register; questionnaire; patient reported outcome; cystocele; rectocele; colporrhaphy; non-absorbable mesh; surgical experience; hälso- och sjukvårdsforskning; health services research; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition that impacts on quality of life for many women. The mean age of Swedish women operated for POP is 60 years, and with a life expectancy of approximately 84 years this means that the average patient will live 24 years subsequent to the operation. 4. 4. Quantitative MRI Biomarkers of Neurodegeneration in Multiple Sclerosis

    Författare :Michael Platten; Tobias Granberg; Chunliang Wang; Fredrik Piehl; Sara Shams; Mattias Vågberg; KTH; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Machine learning; Multiple sclerosis; Corpus callosum; Neurodegeneration; Medical Technology; Medicinsk teknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative disease that targets myelin in the brain and spinal cord. The corpus callosum connects the cerebral hemispheres and is composed of heavily myelinated axons. LÄS MER

  5. 5. EFFECTOR T CELL HOMING TO THE SMALL INTESTINAL MUCOSA

    Författare :Hanna Stenstad; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; Immunology; serology; homing; intestine; GALT; chemokine receptor; lymphocyte; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal mucosa, including the intestinal epithelium and underlying lamina propria (LP), contains a large number of effector/memory T cells that are thought to play a central role in the generation and maintenance of mucosal immune responses and in maintaining mucosal integrity. The work in this thesis investigates the mechanisms regulating effector T cell recruitment to the small intestinal mucosa focusing on the role of chemokine receptors in this process. LÄS MER
