1. Androgen-Independent Prostate Cancer - studies on angiogenesis and ADAMTS1
Sammanfattning : Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the standard treatment for advanced prostate cancer since prostate tumors initially are dependent on androgens for growth. However, most tumors will eventually relapse and grow in a highly aggressive and androgen-independent (AI) manner. LÄS MER
2. Invasive and Metastatic Properties of Advanced Prostate Cancer
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer is initially androgen-dependent (AD) and therefore androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is generally used to treat advanced prostate cancer. However, the long-term treatment effects are insufficient and over time an androgen-independent (AI) tumor relapses, which is generally highly aggressive and metastatic. LÄS MER
3. Somatostatin effects on the proteome of human prostate cancer cells
Sammanfattning : The transition of prostate cancer from androgen dependent to the therapy resistant androgen independent state, is a large and persistent problem in the clinical management of prostate cancer. The aim of this thesis was to study somatostatin effects on the proteome of prostate cancer cells, to identify differences in protein expression in androgen dependent and androgen independent prostate cancer cells, and to explore possibilities to enhance the somatostatin receptor expression through pre-treatment with sms, 5-aza and TSA (DNA methylation/HDAC inhibitors). 4. Androgen controlled regulatory systems in prostate cancer : potential new therapeutic targets and prognostic markers
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is by far the most common cancer among Swedish men. Some patients have an aggressive lethal disease, but the majority of affected men have long expected survival. Unfortunately, the diagnostic tools available are insufficient in predicting disease aggressiveness. Novel prognostic markers are therefore urgently needed. LÄS MER
5. Localisation of Protein Kinase C in Apoptosis and Neurite Outgrowth
Sammanfattning : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases, which are subgrouped into classical (a, bI, bII, g), novel (d, e, h, q) and atypical (z, i/l) isoforms. One major aim of this thesis work was to investigate if altered levels of PKC isoforms influence the apoptotic responses of malignant cell-lines. LÄS MER
