  1. 1. The regulatory role of osteoblasts in castration-resistant growth of prostate cancer

    Författare :Malin Hagberg Thulin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; castration-resistant prostate cancer; bone metastases; osteoblasts;

    Sammanfattning : Bone metastasis of a predominantly osteoblastic (sclerotic) nature is the outcome for the vast majority of patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Pathologically, osteoblastic tumors are characterized by excessive bone formation resulting in decreased quality of life due to severe pain, fractures, nerve compression, and a suppressed immune system. 2. 2. Cellular mechanisms of taxane therapy in castration resistant prostate cancer

    Författare :Martina Tinzl; Malmö (Abrahamsson) Urologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; chemotherapy; taxane; c-jun; androgen receptor; PSA;

    Sammanfattning : Chemotherapy of castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is based on taxane formulations worldwide. Only 30-50 % of patients respond to this therapy and the exact cellular mechanisms of taxane resistance in PC cells are not fully elucidated. There is convincing evidence that androgen receptor (AR) is affected by exposure to these compounds. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Targeted therapeutic strategies for prostate cancer treatment using novel lipid kinase inhibitors in combination with current drugs

    Författare :Julius Semenas; Jenny L. Persson; Anna Berghard; Maria Fällman; Thomas Grundström; Lukas Kenner; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; bone metastasis; castration-resistant; treatment; precision therapy; PIP5K1A; steroid hormone receptors; cancer stem cells; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common cancer types and the fifth cancer-related cause of death among Western world men.  The sex steroid hormone, androgen and androgen receptor (AR) play important roles in PCa progression. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mechanisms behind growth of castration-resistant prostate cancer bone metastases

    Författare :Emma Jernberg; Pernilla Wikström; Jack Schalken; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; castration-resistance; bone metastases; androgen receptor; intratumoral steroidogenesis; androgen receptor splice variants; androgen receptor amplification; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The first-line treatment for patients with advanced prostate cancer (PC) is androgen deprivation therapy. This therapy is initially effective, but after some time tumors relapse, predominantly within the bone, and are then termed castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular heterogeneity of prostate cancer bone metastasis

    Författare :Erik Bovinder Ylitalo; Pernilla Wikström; Anders Bergh; Maria Brattsand; Vessela Kristensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; CRPC; castration-resistant; androgen receptor; splice variant; abiraterone; cabazitaxel; ABCB1; cholesterol; Mdr1; P-gp; bone metastasis; immune response; metabolism; osteoblast; osteoclast; BMP; methylation;

    Sammanfattning : Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) develops after androgen deprivation therapy of advanced PC, often with metastatic growth in bone. Patients with metastatic CRPC have very poor prognosis. Growth of CRPC, in most but not all patients, seems to involve androgen receptor (AR) activity, despite castrate levels of serum testosterone.
