  1. 1. Functional characterization of the secretory pathway and the role of COPI vesicles

    Författare :Johan Hiding; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Golgi; Phosphoinositides; Fusion; COPI; ARF1; Proteomics; ER;

    Sammanfattning : In the secretory pathway, proteins synthesized in the endoplasmatic reticulum move through the Golgi apparatus in a cis-to-trans direction and then sorts into different types of vesicles at the trans-Golgi network. How intracellular transport takes place has been the focus of cell biology research for a long time. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Localisation of Protein Kinase C in Apoptosis and Neurite Outgrowth

    Författare :Anna Schultz; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; onkologi; cancer; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; Prostate Cancer; Neuroblastoma; Ceramide; Golgi Apparatus; Neurite outgrowth; Apoptosis; Protein Kinase C; C1 domain;

    Sammanfattning : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases, which are subgrouped into classical (a, bI, bII, g), novel (d, e, h, q) and atypical (z, i/l) isoforms. One major aim of this thesis work was to investigate if altered levels of PKC isoforms influence the apoptotic responses of malignant cell-lines. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Role of Tripeptidyl peptidase II in cell cycle regulation and tumor progression

    Författare :Vaia Stavropoulou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Apoptosis; Burkitt s lymphoma; cell cycle; centrosome; genetic instability; Golgi; mitosis; tripeptidyl-peptidase II;

    Sammanfattning : Protein degradation is essential for many cellular functions and the ubiquitin-proteasome system controls the turnover of most cellular proteins and plays a pivotal role in the regulation of basic physiological processes and in the pathogenesis of many diseases. Alterations in the metabolism of proteins involved in the regulation of cell cycle and apoptosis may result in uncontrolled cell division, which em lead to malignant transformation and tumor development One melt example is the Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), a highly malignant B-cell tumor characterized by chromosomal translocations that constitutively activate the c-myc oncogene. 4. 4. The atypical Rho GTPase RhoD and its role in cellular dynamics

    Författare :Magdalena Blom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Despite its discovery 20 years ago, the accumulated knowledge about the Rho member RhoD is scarce. Instead, the vast majority of studies concerning Rho GTPases has focused on the three classical members RhoA, Cdc42 and Rac1. In contrast, RhoD is considered an atypical Rho GTPase, with an aberrant GTP/GDP cycling and an unknown regulation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular basis and structural determinants for the cellular localization of cytochrome P450 2E1

    Författare :Etienne P A Neve; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) is the alcohol inducible member of the P450 family and has a role in gluconeogenesis under fasting conditions. However, CYP2E1 is mainly of toxicological significance and metabolizes xenobiotics to their carcinogenic and toxic metabolites and generates active oxygen species that can cause lipid peroxidation and apoptosis, processes observed in alcoholic liver disease (ALD).
