  1. 1. Tularemia : epidemiological, clinical and diagnostic aspects

    Författare :Henrik Eliasson; Erik Bäck; Anders Sjöstedt; Clas Ahlm; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Francisella; tularemia; epidemiology; case-control; diagnosis; PCR; clinical characteristics; immunology; ELISA; lymphocyte stimulation; Medicine; Medicin; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Tularemia is a zoonosis caused by the small, fastidious, gram-negative rod Francisella tularensis that appears over almost the entire Northern Hemisphere. In Sweden, tularemia has appeared mainly in restricted areas in northern parts of central Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Towards the Limits – Climate Change Aspects of Life and Health in Northern Sweden : studies of tularemia and regional experiences of changes in the environment

    Författare :Maria Furberg; Maria Nilsson; Anders Johansson; Lars Weinehall; Peter Friberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Climate change; public health; Indigenous peoples; Sami; reindeer herding; resilience; tularemia; mixed-methods; infectious disease; seroprevalence; ELISA; outbreak investigation; risk factor; ecology; Francisella tularensis; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundIndigenous peoples with traditional lifestyles worldwide are considered particularly vulnerable to climate change effects. Large climate change impacts on the spread of infectious vector-borne diseases are expected as a health outcome. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic genealogy and epidemiology of Francisella

    Författare :Kerstin Svensson; Anders Johansson; Mats Forsman; Sam R. Telford III; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; tularemia; genotyping; epidemiology; GIS; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about analyzing genetic differences among isolates of Francisella tularensis – the tularemia-causing bacterium. To elucidate how these bacterial isolates are related, and their geographical and genetic origins, I have developed typing assays for Francisella and used them to study the epidemiology of tularemia. 4. 4. A microarray analysis of the host response to infection with Francisella tularensis

    Författare :Henrik Andersson; Anders Sjöstedt; David Stenger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; tularemia; host response; gene expression; microarray; Clinical bacteriology; Klinisk bakteriologi;

    Sammanfattning : Francisella tularensis is a gram-negative bacterium that is the cause of the serious and sometimes fatal disease, tularemia, in a wide range of animal species and in humans. The response of cells of the mouse macrophage cell line J774 to infection with Francisella tularensis LVS was analyzed by means of a DNA microarray. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The role of the Type IV pili system in the virulence of Francisella tularensis

    Författare :Emelie Salomonsson; Åke Forsberg; Jean-Pierre Gorvel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; tularemia; bacterial pathogenesis; Type IV pili; Type II secretion; Neisseria gonorrhoeae; PilA; RD18; RD19; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Francisella tularensis is a Gram-negative intracellular pathogen causing the zoonotic disease tularemia. F. tularensis can be found almost all over the world and has been recovered from several animal species, even though the natural reservoir of the bacterium and parts of its life cycle are still unknown.
