  1. 26. Mapping the human proteome using bioinformatic methods

    Författare :Linn Fagerberg; Mathias Uhlén; Alvis Brazma; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proteome; transcriptome; bioinformatics; membrane protein prediction; subcellular localization; protein expression level; cell line; immunohistochemistry; immunofluorescence; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The fundamental goal of proteomics is to gain an understanding of the expression and function of the proteome on the level of individual proteins, on the level of defined cell types and on the level of the entire organism. In this thesis, the human proteome is explored using membrane protein topology prediction methods to define the human membrane proteome and by global protein expression profiling, which relies on a complex study of the location and expression levels of proteins in tissues and cells. 2. 27. Sexual Conflict and Gene Expression in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Paolo Innocenti; Edward Morrow; Göran Arnqvist; Andrew G Clark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sexual conflict; sexual selection; male-female coevolution; gene expression; transcriptome; microarrays; sexual dimorphism; Drosophila; Biology; Biologi; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Sexual conflict is broadly defined as a conflict between the evolutionary interests of the two sexes. Depending on the genetic architecture of the traits involved, it can occur at the level of male-female interactions or take the form of selection acting to change the mean of a shared trait against the sign of its genetic correlation. 3. 28. Evolution of mate signalling in moths: Biosynthetic gene families and diversification of female sex pheromones

    Författare :Marjorie Liénard; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; duplication; transcriptome; fatty-acyl-CoA reductase; fatty-acyl-CoA desaturase; fatty-acid biosynthesis; odour; insect; Lepidoptera; phylogeny; qPCR; heterologous expression; mutagenesis;

    Sammanfattning : Pheromones are intraspecific chemical signals serving as a ubiquitous form of communication, particularly among insects. Female sex-pheromone signals act as the core constituent in the specialized odour-mediated moth mate-recognition system. Female moths typically release multicomponent mixtures of alcohols, aldehydes or acetates. LÄS MER

  4. 29. A genomic approach to smooth muscle differentiation and diversity

    Författare :Sven Nelander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Keywords: smooth muscle; phenotype; transcriptional regulation; differentiation; transcriptome; microarray; computational prediction; co-expression network; regulatory sequence analysis; gene module; gene battery;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) are a broad class of contractile cells that are found in a number of organs systems, including the vasculature, the urogenital system, the bronchi and the gastrointestinal tract. The two main functions exerted by SMCs are to provide contractile force and to synthesize structural components of the extracellular matrix. LÄS MER

  5. 30. The puzzle of lichen symbiosis : Pieces from Thamnolia

    Författare :Ioana Onuț-Brännström; Hanna Johannesson; Leif Tibell; Anne Pringle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Thamnolia; lichen; symbiosis; photobiont; mycobiont; phylogeography; MAT-loci; barcoding; NGS; genome; transcriptome; Ice Age; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Sammanfattning : Symbiosis brought important evolutionary novelties to life on Earth. Lichens, the symbiotic entities formed by fungi, photosynthetic organisms and bacteria, represent an example of a successful adaptation in surviving hostile environments. Yet many aspects of the lichen symbiosis remain unexplored. LÄS MER
