6. Development of a New Biomechanical ex vivo Perfusion System - Studies on effects of biomechanical and inflammatory stress on hemostatic genes in human vascular endothelium
Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface constantly exposed to biomechanical forces such as shear and tensile stress. Biomechanical stress is involved in the pathophysiological process of the vessel wall and thus affects vascular remodeling, atherosclerosis and thrombogenesis. LÄS MER
7. Thrombin generation in different cohorts : Evaluation of the haemostatic potential
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to evaluate thrombin generation in patients with thrombophilia (Paper I), in patients with venous thromboembolism (Paper II), in healthy women during the menstrual cycle (Paper III), in patients with liver disease (Paper IV) and in patients with mild deficiency of factor VII (Paper V).For this purpose, thrombin generation was measured in platelet poor plasma by the calibrated automated thrombogram (CAT®) assay. 8. Aspects of platelet transfusions and the association between routine coagulation tests and outcome
Sammanfattning : Patients with chemotherapy-induced bone marrow aplasia often develop severe thrombocytopenia which requires platelet transfusion. However, up to 25% of the patients show a less than adequate response to the transfusion. LÄS MER
9. Interaction of Triglyceride-rich Lipoproteins with Platelets and Vitamin K-dependent Coagulation Factors
Sammanfattning : 1. During incubation of platelets with 3H-arachidonic acid (20:4, n-6) and 14C-cholesterol doubly labelled and colloidal gold labelled chylomicrons (CMs) and chylomicron remnants (CMRs) CMs were taken up more efficiently than CMRs. Addition of unlabelled CMs, VLDLs, LDLs and HDLs decreased the uptake of labelled CMs. LÄS MER
10. Anticoagulant protein C--structural and functional studies
Sammanfattning : Anticoagulant protein C is a vitamin K-dependent factor circulating in plasma as a zymogen of a serine protease. It is converted to its active form (APC) by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex on the surface of endothelial cells. APC inhibits the generation of thrombin by selective proteolytic inactivation procoagulant factors Va and VIIIa. LÄS MER
