Sammanfattning : The starting point in this licentiate thesis is the fact that students are to do a national test in Swedish, Course B, in upper secondary school, and that their oral presentations are to be assessed by the teacher. Sammanfattning : Based on four published articles on Swedish upper secondary school pupils’ use of online resources during essay writing in Spanish L3, this thesis in educational work and Romance languages focuses, from a language education perspective, on the use of machine translation. Two of the articles observe pupils’ use of online resources in general, and of Google Translate in particular, revealing a complex weave of strategies where Swedish, Spanish, and English are used to search, change and control word sequences, simultaneously including lexical, morphological, and syntactic aspects of the languages. 29. "Say It Fast, Fluent and Flawless" : formulaicity in the oral language production of young foreign language learners
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports on a study, which investigated the process of early foreign language learning in a classroom context and the functions of multi-word units of language known as formulaic sequences in the oral language production of young foreign language learners. A classroom with 11 students in the age range 9 to 11 years was observed and video recorded for 16 sessions (90 minutes per session). LÄS MER
30. Engagement, directed motivational currents, and second language learning : adult immigrant perspectives
Sammanfattning : The dissertation answers calls for the integration of motivation and engagement theory and research among highly educated adult-migrant language learners. Specifically, the purpose of this dissertation is to propose a model to describe the interactions between the motivation construct Directed Motivational Currents (DMCs) and the engagement construct Engagement with Language (EWL).
