  1. 26. Adipose tissue mitchondrial function is modulated by antioxidants

    Författare :Eduard Peris Franquet; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocyte; metabolism; browning; antioxidant; mitochondria; oxidative stress; adrenergic recpetor; N-acetylcysteine; glutathione; reactive oxygen species;

    Sammanfattning : Antioxidants are widely used as reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging agents in experimental research and in conditions where oxidative stress plays a primary role. However, the effect of antioxidant supplementation on white and brown adipose tissue functionality is understudied, and the role of ROS and/or antioxidant treatment during adipose tissue browning, a process in which the adipocytes’ mitochondrial density and activity increase, is largely unknown. 2. 27. Mechanisms of leukemia-induced immunosuppression

    Författare :Johan Aurelius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute myeloid leukemia; Immunosuppression; Immunotherapy; Reactive oxygen species; PARP-1; NK cells; T cells;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to define the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS), produced by the NADPH oxidase of myeloid cells, in the regulation of lymphocyte function with focus on ROS-induced dysfunction of natural killer (NK) cells and T lymphocytes in myeloid leukemia. In Paper I, a novel mechanism is presented by which specifically activated T lymphocytes evade inactivation by ROS after antigen presentation. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Neutrophil Chemotaxis and Respiratory Burst in Term and Preterm Newborn Infants

    Författare :Maria Stålhammar; Richard Sindelar; Jens Schollin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :innate immunity; neutrophil; term newborn infants; preterm newborn infants; chemotaxis; respiratory burst; reactive oxygen species; cell surface receptor; IL-8; bacterial N-formyl peptide;

    Sammanfattning : Neutrophil activation is the most important initial immune defense against invading microbes in newborn infants. The reduced neutrophil migration and uncontrolled regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production observed in neonates, could result in a diminished infectious response or in tissue damage. 4. 29. Innate and acquired immunity to herpes simplex virus type 2 glycoprotein G in humans

    Författare :Lars Bellner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :herpes simplex virus type 2; glycoprotein G-2; T-cell proliferation; Th1 cytokines; phagocytes; NK cells; reactive oxygen species; formyl peptide receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a sexually transmitted pathogen that infects the human genital tract mucosa and is the most common cause of genital ulcer disease in humans. The infection exhibits a broad clinical spectrum, ranging from severe recurrent episodes of genital herpes to being completely asymptomatic. LÄS MER

  5. 30. The role of MTH1 in ultraviolet radiation-induced mutagenesis

    Författare :Asal Fotouhi; Siamak Haghdoost; Harry Vrieling; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ultraviolet radiation; MTH1; reactive oxygen species; 8-oxo-dGTP; 2-OH-dATP; micronucleus; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is known to be highly mutagenic. What types of DNA lesions that are induced by different UVR wavelengths are still a matter of debate. UVR induces mutagenesis mostly by the formation of photoproducts and the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). LÄS MER
