  1. 11. Cell-protein-material Interactions on Bioceramics and Model Surfaces

    Författare :Åsa Rosengren; Sven Oscarsson; Lucy Di Silvio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; protein adsorption; blood proteins; biomaterials; ceramics; glass-ceramics; two-dimensional gel electrophoresis; protein orientation; silicon wafers; atomic force microscopy; bone cell adhesion; divalent cation dependency; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis was to investigate and characterize the interaction between blood proteins and different surfaces with emphasis on protein adsorption to bioceramics and model surfaces. Special effort was made to monitor the spontaneous and selective adsorption of proteins from human plasma and to examine the orientation, conformation and functional behavior of single proteins after adsorption. 2. 12. Macromolecules at Interfaces

    Författare :Helén Larsericsdotter; Sven Oscarsson; Jos Buijs; Willem Norde; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Protein; Adsorption; Immobilization; Surface; Surface Plasmon Resonance; SPR; Mass Spectrometry; MS; Differential Scanning Calorimetry; DSC; FT ICR; Lysozyme; Bovine Serum Albumin; BSA; Myoglobin; Globular; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the structure and stability of globular proteins adsorbed onto nanometer-sized hydrophilic silica particles were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX), and mass spectrometry (MS). The adsorption process itself was characterized with fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). LÄS MER

  3. 13. Fouling and cleaning of solid surfaces. The influence of surface characteristics and operating conditions

    Författare :Camilla Karlsson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; ellipsometry; sodium hydroxide; anionic surfactant; betalactoglobulin; protein; stainless steel; hydrophilic surface; hydrophobic surface; cleaning; adsorption; fouling; Livsmedelsteknik; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The severe fouling common in food processing puts high demands on equipment cleaning. Adsorption of the protein betalactoglobulin to solid surfaces and its subsequent removal were followed using in situ ellipsometry. Most experiments were done in a stirred cuvette. Additionally, a flow cell was designed, which was employed in some work. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Development of a Novel QCM Technique for Protein Adsorption Studies

    Författare :Fredrik Höök; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; viscoelastic effects; myoglobin; QCM; hemoglobin; ferritin; dissipation factor; protein adsorption; conformational changes;

    Sammanfattning : The first part of this thesis (Papers I and II) is concentrated on the development of a novel quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technique to study protein adsorption. The second part (Papers III-V) is focused on the application of the technique on protein adsorption using well characterized surface-solution-protein systems. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Tailoring of Biomaterials using Ionic Interactions : Synthesis, Characterization and Application

    Författare :Björn Atthoff; Jöns Hilborn; Tim Bowden; Mats Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chemistry; biodegradable polymers; ionomer; water uptake; protein delivery; protein adsorption; protein membrane; cell seeding efficiency; amphiphillic; inner structure; polarized membrane; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The interactions between polymers and components of biological systems are an important area of interest within the fields of tissue engineering, polymer chemistry, medicine and biomaterials. In order to create such a biomimetic material, it must show the inherent ability to reproduce or elicit a biological function. LÄS MER
