  1. 1. Diffusion studies in gels using holographic laser interferometry

    Författare :Charlotte Mattisson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; chemical potential; ionic strenght; pH; cubic phase; partition coefficient; holographic laser interferometry; holography; pullulan; lysozyme; BSA; macromolecules; diffusion; gel; Poisson-Boltzmann; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is an investigation of the potential of holographic laser interferometry for the study of diffusion of both small solutes and macromolecules. An investigation on the importance of errors due to light deflection in refarctive index gradients showed that the magnitude of the refractive index gradients were negligible for the system investigated. 2. 2. Optimisation of diagnostic PCR a study of PCR inhibitors in blood and sample pretreatment

    Författare :Waleed Abu Al-Soud; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; AmpliTaq Gold; Amplification facilitators; Betaine; Blood culture medium; Blood; BSA; cheese; faeces; gp32; Haemoglobin; Ions; Immunoglobulin G; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : PCR is widely employed as a rapid, sensitive and specific molecular diagnostic technique in clinical diagnosis, environmental investigations and for monitoring biotechnical processes. However, the full potential of diagnostic PCR is limited, in part, by the presence of PCR-inhibitory substances in biological samples. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Macromolecules at Interfaces

    Författare :Helén Larsericsdotter; Sven Oscarsson; Jos Buijs; Willem Norde; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Protein; Adsorption; Immobilization; Surface; Surface Plasmon Resonance; SPR; Mass Spectrometry; MS; Differential Scanning Calorimetry; DSC; FT ICR; Lysozyme; Bovine Serum Albumin; BSA; Myoglobin; Globular; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the structure and stability of globular proteins adsorbed onto nanometer-sized hydrophilic silica particles were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX), and mass spectrometry (MS). The adsorption process itself was characterized with fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Intestinal permeability : a parameter of mucosal dysfunction

    Författare :Pål Lundin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Peptide; N-acetylcysteine; Medium-chain glyceride; Mannitol; Macromolecules; Lipid; Kinetics; In vivo; In vitro; In situ; Intestine; Injury; Inflammation; HLA-B27; HCl; Epithelium; Enhancer; dDAVP; 51Cr-EDTA; BSA; Absorption; Albumin; Permeability; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract has two opposing functions; to absorb nutrients and electrolytes, and to act as a barrier towards hazardous and non-nutritional substances. In the present thesis the barrier function of the gastrointestinal tract was studied in animal models in vivo, in situ and in vitro. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Adaptive immune responses in atherosclerosis - or how to prolong the use of your yellow socks

    Författare :Daniel Kolbus; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cationized BSA; Atherosclerosis; alum; CD8 T cell; intima-media thickness;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial disease, but an unbalanced immune system plays a critical role in the disease development. A common theory states that a continuous stress to the vascular vessel wall initiates a repair process that however is insufficient to completely heal the tissue. LÄS MER
