1. Appetite regulating neuropeptides in alcohol addiction : focus on melanin concentrating hormone and its mch1-receptor
Sammanfattning : Current treatment options for alcohol use disorders are limited in number and have limited efficacy. It is therefore important to find new, more effective medications. LÄS MER
2. Fouling and cleaning of solid surfaces. The influence of surface characteristics and operating conditions
Sammanfattning : The severe fouling common in food processing puts high demands on equipment cleaning. Adsorption of the protein betalactoglobulin to solid surfaces and its subsequent removal were followed using in situ ellipsometry. Most experiments were done in a stirred cuvette. Additionally, a flow cell was designed, which was employed in some work. LÄS MER
3. Structures of some bacterial polysaccharides with focus on pneumococcal polysaccharides and their associated C-polysaccharide
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the chemical structures of the capsular polysaccharides from Streptococcus pneumoniae types 18B, 32F, and 32A. The structure of the pneumococcal common antigen, C-polysaccharide, from a non-capsulated pneumococcal strain, CSR SCS2, is described and the structure of the C-polysaccharide associated with pneumococcal types 18B, 32F, and 32A. 4. Prostate cancer : epidemiological studies of risk factors
Sammanfattning : In spite of the fact that prostate cancer is the most common male cancer in both Sweden and many other countries in the developed world, little is known of risk factors and predisposing conditions. The only well recognized risk factors are age, race and familial aggregation. LÄS MER
5. Gastric Bypass in Morbid Obesity : Postoperative Changes in Metabolic, Inflammatory and Gut Regulatory Peptides
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the effect of surgical weight loss on gut and adipose tissue peptides involved in appetite regulation and energy homeostasis in morbidly obese humans. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) is the gold standard operation used for effective long-term weight loss and improved health. LÄS MER
