  1. 1. Regulation of the vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype

    Författare :Henrik Lindskog; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; embryonic stem cells; vascular smooth muscle cell; smooth muscle cell; pericyte; phenotypic modulation; lipoma preferred partner; ectra-cellular matrix; zinc finger protein 148;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMC) are present in many internal organs such as the blood vessels and the gastrointestinal channel. Their main functions are to provide stability to the tissue and to provide contractile capability. SMC are not terminally differentiated but can switch between several phenotypes, which is also known as phenotypic modulation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neuropeptides, sensory neurons and pain modulation

    Författare :Pablo R Brumovsky; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis work we have analyzed the expression, regulation and function of two neuropeptides: galanin and neuropeptide tyrosine (NPY). Their associated receptors, galanin receptor-1 and -2 (GaIR1, -R2) and NPY Y1- and Y2R, were also studied. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Antigen presenting cells in autoimmune diabetes: phenotype, function and modulation by Linomide

    Författare :Eva Dahlén; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; secreting systems; Endocrinology; Linomide; costimulation; TNF-a; dendritic cells; Diabetes; macrophages; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to better understand the role of antigen presenting cells (APC) in the development of diabetes in the nonobese diabetic (NOD) mouse. We have shown that DC and Mphi that infiltrate the islets of Langerhans produce tumour necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), a cytokine known to contribute to the pathogenesis in the early stages of diabetes development. 4. 4. Transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype - Implications for vascular disease states

    Författare :Azra Alajbegovic; Molekylär kärlfysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Vascular smooth muscle cells VSMC ; cell phenotype; microRNA; Aneurysm; hypertension; Actin polymerization; GATA6; MRTFA; Vascular disease;

    Sammanfattning : As the world population is pushing toward 8 billion, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the leading cause of death worldwide, representing 30% of all global deaths. A large body of work has recognized that smooth muscle cells (SMCs) surrounding the blood vessels play a prominent role in the development and progression of cardiovascular diseases. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Retinoids in the modulation of vascular inflammation

    Författare :Andreas Gidlöf; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Retinoids; metabolism; vascular smooth muscle cell; nitric oxide; inflammation; proliferation; restenosis;

    Sammanfattning : Vascular disease is multifactorial. Smooth muscle cells, the major constituent of the normal vessel wall, play a pivotal role. The pathogenesis includes cellular differentiation, proliferation and inflammatory activation. LÄS MER
