  1. 31. Neurohormonal Modulators in the Parathyroid Gland. Localization and regulation

    Författare :Lena Luts; Malmö Patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Receptor; In situ hybridization; Immunocytochemistry; Nitric Oxide Synthase; Endothelin; Neuropeptides; Chromogranin; Parathyroid adenoma; Parathyroid gland; Parathyroid hormone; mRNA; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : The occurrence and distribution of neurohormonal peptides, neuroendocrine markers and receptors in parathyroid nerve fibers and endocrine cells are described, using immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, image analysis and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Immunocytochemical studies revealed that parathyroid glands of chicken, rat, guinea-pig, cat, dog and sheep contained adrenergic-, cholinergic-, and peptide-containing nerve fibers. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide in the brain

    Författare :Jenny Nyberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :neural progenitor cells; neural stem cells; hippocampus; cell proliferation; GIP; neuropeptides; insulinotropic; gastrointestinal;

    Sammanfattning : The hippocampus is an area of active cell proliferation and neurogenesis within the adult mammalian brain. Adult neurogenesis is of great importance for the brain, since it increases neuroplasticity and the ability to respond to environmental stimuli. LÄS MER

  3. 33. A molecular exploration of sensory responses in c. elegans

    Författare :Longjun Pu; Changchun Chen; Simon Tuck; Sara I Wilson; Zhiyong Shao; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; C. elegans; sensation; CRISPR Cas9; G protein-coupled receptors; neuropeptides; acute hypoxia; pathogen; chemosensation; hydrogen sulfide; HIF-1; iron;

    Sammanfattning : Sensation provides a pivotal ability, allowing animals to survive in complex environments. The cues sensed by animals are represented by external stimuli and internal signals. However, the mechanisms mediating sensations in molecular and cellular level are still not well-studied. In this thesis, by using free-living nematodes C. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Genomic and Peptidomic Characterization of the Developing Avian Brain

    Författare :Birger Scholz; Lennart Dencker; Eric Vilain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; Sex differentation; Sex determination; Sex chromosomes; Dosage Compensation; Genetic; Chickens; Coturnix; Gene Expression Profiling; Neuropeptides; Diencephalon; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Chicken and Japanese quail are commonly used models in developmental and sex specific neuroendocrine research. There is relatively little known about the mechanisms behind their sex specific brain development, especially regarding the impact of the sex chromosomes (male: ZZ, female ZW) in relation to gonadal hormones. 5. 35. Vulnerability and Social Functioning in Schizophrenia

    Författare :Gabriella Stålberg; Robert Bodén; Lisa Ekselius; Lena Flyckt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Coping; fetal growth; low birth weight; neuropeptides; outcome; problem solving skills; psychosis; risk factors; schizophrenia; siblings; social function; twins; Psychiatry; Psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis offers a broad approach in elucidating biological risk factors, as well as psychological and social functioning in schizophrenia. The aims are as follows: (I) investigate the association between birth characteristics and schizophrenia, (II) study the association between levels of neurotransmitter neuropeptide Y (NPY) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), social function and longitudinal outcome in schizophrenia, (III) compare social functioning of patients with schizophrenia with their biological siblings and (IV) explore how siblings to patients with schizophrenia perceive the sibling relationship and their role.
