16. Ecology and evolution of coastal Baltic Sea 'dead zone' sediments
Sammanfattning : Since industrialization and the release of agricultural fertilizers began, coastal and open waters of the Baltic Sea have been loaded with nutrients. This has increased the growth of algal blooms and because a portion of the algal organic matter sinks to the sea floor, hypoxia has increased. LÄS MER
17. Bioindication and bioremediation of landfill emissions
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the use of plants, fungi, and microorganisms to assess and treat landfill gas, leachate and contaminated soils. As landfill emissions can occur over extended time periods, it is a practical strategy to develop passive and economical methods for emission control i.e., requiring little human involvement. LÄS MER
18. Homogeneous Ignition - Chemical Kinetic Studies for IC-Engine Applications
Sammanfattning : Calculations on a Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine have been performed. Zero-dimensional models were used. The simplest model compressed the gas to auto-ignition, using temperature and pressure at a certain crank angle position obtained from engine experiments. LÄS MER
19. Increase of Biogas Production at Wastewater Treatment Plants Addition of urban organic waste and pre-treatment of sludge
Sammanfattning : Anaerobic digestion of organic matter results in the production of biogas, which can be used to replace fossil fuels. There is potential for increased biogas production at wastewater treatment plants by digesting urban organic waste either separately or together with the sludge. Biogas production could also be increased by sludge pre-treatment. LÄS MER
20. Intensification of the biogas process by improved process monitoring and biomass retention
Sammanfattning : The utilisation of energy in the form of biogas is one of the environmentally sound alternatives available using renewable energy sources. Biogas is formed by anaerobic degradation of organic material, the main consistuent being energy-rich methane. LÄS MER
