  1. 1. Systemic sclerosis : vascular, pulmonary and immunological aspects

    Författare :Grethe Neumann Andersen; Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Sören Jacobsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic sclerosis; interstitial lung disease; MMP-9; Th1 Th2; transcription factors; NO; iNOS; E-selectin; endothelium-dependent dilation; endothelium-independent dilation.; Rheumatology; Reumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : In systemic sclerosis (SSc), interstitial lung disease (ILD) and engagement of the vascular system lead to increased morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate, in a consecutively included cohort of SSc (limited and diffuse) patients (n = 33), the T cell cytokine profile driving the disease in ILD and to explore the role of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) and its inhibitor: tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) in the extracellular matrix (ECM) degrading process leading to fibrous scarring and honey combing. 2. 2. Acute pancreatitis - Cellular response and dynamic inflammatory changes

    Författare :Marwan Dib; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Veterinary medicine:surgery; inflammatory mediators.; adhesion molecules; endothelial barrier dysfunction; inflammatory response; mast cell; abdominal sepsis; Acute pancreatitis; physiology; pathology; clinical studies; Veterinärmedicin:kirurgi; fysiologi; patologi; kliniska studier;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disorder where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and the remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The aim of the present study was to further characterize the dynamics and sequence of the immune response in AP, and to determine the cellular origin of the initiating events. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modulation of Inflammatory Response in Surgical Trauma

    Författare :Andreas Kvarnström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammatory response; cytokines; complement activation; colorectal surgery; laparoscopy; inhalation anesthesia; intravenous anesthesia; autologous blood transfusion;

    Sammanfattning : Surgical trauma results in the activation of inflammatory cascade systems in the body. Excessive systemic inflammation can lead to organ dysfunction in one or several organs. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Inflammatory response and intervention in experimental acute pancreatitis

    Författare :Changbin Shi; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; signalling pathways; protein kinase C; nuclear factor-kB; leukocytes; inflammatory mediators; immunosuppression; acute pancreatitis; extracellular signal-regulated kinase;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The overall aim of the thesis was to study mechanisms of the inflammatory response in AP with special emphasis on local, systemic, and distant organ injury directed at different signalling pathways, and potential therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of inflammation and cell injury following AP. 5. 5. Systemic inflammatory activation during cardiac Surgery. Influence of cardiopulmonary bypass management and patient factors

    Författare :Martin Westerberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cardiopulmonary bypass; inflammatory response; coagulation; CABG; cardiotomy suction; cytokines;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass is accompanied by a prominent systemic inflammatory and hemostatic activation, which may contribute to postoperative complications. Aims: To investigate if selection of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) system and management of cardiotomy suction (CTS) and mediastinal shed blood (MSB) affect systemic inflammatory response. LÄS MER
