1. Metabolic and endocrine effects of SGLT2 inhibition
Sammanfattning : Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are two growing global health problems with similar comorbidity profiles. SGLT2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) improve blood glucose control and can relieve both T2D and obesity, as well as their associated health problems such as hypertension, kidney failure, and cardiovascular disease. 2. Modulation of the calcium-force relationship in smooth muscle by polyamines and metabolic inhibition
Sammanfattning : The relationship between intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i) and force in smooth muscle was investigated in receptor-coupled permeabilized preparations and by fluorimetry of the calcium indicator Fura 2 in intact smooth muscle. The time integral of spontaneous [Ca2+]i transients in the intact rat portal vein was decreased by cyanide and, during tonic contraction, cyanide reduced force without changing [Ca2+]i implying metabolic sensitivity of both membrane excitation and [Ca2+]i - activation of the contractile proteins. 4. Vascular and metabolic effects of selective PDE-5 inhibition - clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Vascular and metabolic effects of selective PDE-5 inhibition Clinical and experimental studies Lovisa Sjögren Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, Institute of Medicine at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg Key words: Type 2 diabetes, phosphodiesterase-5 inhibition, inflammation, endothelial cells, HUVEC. TNFα, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, E-Selectin, JNK, MAPK Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients show impaired glucose metabolism, endothelial dysfunction, chronic low-grade inflammation as well as an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. 5. Cardiovascular morbidity and metabolic signature in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease with excess risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The treatment of RA by anti-inflammatory drugs has dramatically been improved over the resent decades. LÄS MER
