  2. 2. Antibiotics and infusion phlebitis. Clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Peter Lanbeck; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infections; HUVEC; endothelium vascular; Infektioner; ICAM-1; 3H-thymidine incorporation; cloxacillin; dicloxacillin; phlebitis epidemiology; Antibiotics; phlebitis chemically induced;

    Sammanfattning : Intravenous administration of antibiotics is often followed by infusion phlebitis. In this condition are vessel irritation, inflammation and sometimes superficial thrombosis included. In this thesis, the risk for infusion phlebitis for various antibiotics has been evaluated in a clinical study in 550 patients. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Endothelial cell interactions with neutrophils : studies of adhesion and effects of lipoxygenase metabolites and antirheumatic drugs

    Författare :Mikael Heimbürger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :adhesion; auranofin; endothelium; gold sodium thiomalate; leukotrienes; lipoxins; neutrophils; PPAR; prednisolone;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is a process of vital importance in the defence and elimination of microorganisms as well as in the repair of the damaged tissue. However, inadequate or excessive inflammation leads to inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Innate immune response in human endothelial cells : characterization and regulation of E-selectin, ICAM-I and cytokine expression and the role of Staphylococcus aureus

    Författare :Jan Strindhall; Åsa Ljungh; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelial cells located on the vessel walls play an important role in inflammation. In response to cytokines or other inflammatory mediators such as microorganisms, endothelial cells express cell adhesion molecules such as E-selectin and ICAM-1 that are involved in binding circulating leukocytes to the endothelium. 5. 5. IGF-I receptors, insulin receptors and insulin/IGF-I hybrid receptors in human endothelial cells : with special reference to diabetes

    Författare :Marloes Dekker Nitert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with diabetes mellitus are known to develop vascular complications, which occur as macroangiopathy, atherosclerosis and mediasclerosis, as well as microangiopathy, e.g. retinopathy and nephropathy. The precise mechanisms causing these complications have not yet been elucidated. LÄS MER
