  1. 1. Cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality : influence of fitness, fatness and genetic factors

    Författare :Gabriel Högström; Anna Nordström; Peter Nordström; Johan Sundström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; all-cause mortality; aerobic fitness; obesity; cardiovascular disease; stroke; myocardial infarction; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; Population studies; befolkningsstudier; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundLow aerobic fitness and obesity are associated with atherosclerosis, and thereforegreatly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and early death. It has long been known that atherosclerosis my begin early in life. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the major health issues of our time. The prevalence of CVD is increasing, both in industrialized and in developing countries, and causes suffering and a decreased quality of life for millions of people worldwide. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Smokeless Tobacco (Snus) and Cardiovascular Disease : Associations with Heart Failure and Prognosis after Myocardial Infarction

    Författare :Gabriel Arefalk; Johan Sundström; Martin Holzmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Snus; smokeless tobacco; nicotine; cardiovascular disease; heart failure; myocardial infarction; mortality; prognosis; epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Previous investigations of snus use (oral moist snuff, a Swedish form of smokeless tobacco) and cardiovascular disease have generally focused on atherosclerotic events such as myocardial infarction and stroke, likely because smoking is such a well-established risk factor for atherosclerotic disease. Smokeless administration of tobacco circumvents most of the atherogenic effects of the combusted products from smoked tobacco, but it is possible that the potent autonomic and hemodynamic effects of snus and nicotine per se are detrimental for cardiovascular tissues. 4. 4. Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality among Swedish farmers and non-farmers : A population-based study

    Författare :Eva-Lena Stiernström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Farmer; morbidity; mortality; cardiovascular; lifestyle; sense of coherence. psychosocial; epidemiology; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : All over the world morbidity and mortality rates are unevenly distributed in the populations. From official statistics it has been shown that farmers are more healthy and live longer than the rest of the occupationally active population. It has been shown that this is not due to a healthy workereffect, at least not in Sweden. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mortality in Oxygen-Dependent Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Possibilities for Pharmacological Interventions

    Författare :Magnus Ekström; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []

    Sammanfattning : Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major and rising cause of mortality worldwide, especially in women. Patients with chronic hypoxia owing to COPD are treated with long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) but have high morbidity and mortality. LÄS MER
