11. Directly exposed electron-detectors for electron energy-loss spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the possibilities of using planar silicon-devices such as the photodiode array and the charge-coupled device (CCD) as directly exposed electron-detectors for electron energy-loss spectroscopy. The aim is to achieve an acceptable performance at low signal intensities, enabling single electron detection. LÄS MER
12. Significane of loss models in aerothermodynamic simulation for axial turbines
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with a study of the significance of lossmodels and their applications in simulation and optimisation ofaxial turbines. The design of a turbomachine system is a verycomplex engineering operation which can be looked upon as aniterative procedure made of various steps. LÄS MER
13. Lumbar spinal stenosis : Body mass index and the patient's perspective
Sammanfattning : During recent decades, lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) has become the most common indication for spine surgery, a change that coincides with a higher worldwide prevalence of overweight and obesity. Thus, surgical treatment of LSS in the overweight and obese population is common and increasing in scope. LÄS MER
14. Acoustical properties of earplugs
Sammanfattning : In this study an experimental setup for measurements of high impedance objects in ducts, yielding the acoustical Two-Port properties of the object, is applied to earplugs. A frequently used experimental setup for measuring objective acoustical properties of earplugs is that of artificial ears. Great effort is spent on duplicating the human ear. LÄS MER
15. Molecular and clinical genetic studies of a novel variant of familial hypercalcemia
Sammanfattning : Familial primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is a rare disorder that is treated surgically and mostly occurs in association with tumor-susceptibility syndromes, like multiple endocrine neoplasia and the hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor syndrome. Familial hypercalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH) is another cause of hereditary hypercalcemia that generally is considered to require no treatment and is genetically and pathophysiologically distinct from HPT.
