  1. 11. Regulation and polymorphism of CYP2A6, CYP2B6 and CYP2E1 : functional and clinical aspects

    Författare :Jue Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cytochrome P450; CYP2A6; CYP2B6; CYP2El; gene regulation; polymorphism; SNP; genotyping; IL4; signaling pathway;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome P450s constitute a superfamily of heme-binding monooxygenases that play important roles in the metabolism of endogenous substrates and a wide variety of exogenous substances, such as toxins and drugs, and participate as well in the biosynthesis of steroids, fatty acids, vitamins and bile acids. The P450s genes are subjects for large inter-individual variability in expression, which subsequently cause inter-individual differences in drug metabolism. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Factors influencing the metabolism of inorganic arsenic in humans

    Författare :Anna-Lena Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Arsenic; AS3MT; Gender differences; GSTO1; Metabolism; Methylation; MTHFR; Nutrition; Polymorphisms;

    Sammanfattning : Inorganic arsenic (iAs), a naturally occurring drinking water contaminant, is a potent human carcinogen and toxicant. It is believed that in humans, as well as in most mammals, inorganic arsenic is biotransformed via reduction and methylation using one-carbon metabolism with S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) as methyl donor, and is excreted mainly in urine as dimethylarsinate (DMA) and methylarsonate (MA) as well as some unmethylated iAs (arsenate (As(V)) and arsenite (As(III)). 3. 13. Genetics of androgen disposition : implications for doping tests

    Författare :Jenny Jakobsson Schulze; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) are derivatives of testosterone. Doping with AAS is a severe challenge to the vision, moral and ethics in sports and has also become an increasing problem in society. Testosterone abuse is conventionally assessed by the urinary testosterone glucuronide/ epitestosterone glucuronide (T/E) ratio, levels above 4. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, molecular epidemiology and host immune response

    Författare :Gunlög Rasmussen; Bo Söderquist; Kristoffer Strålin; Eva Särndahl; Peter Bergman; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Staphylococcus aureus; molecular epidemiology; DNAmicroarray; bacteremia; sepsis; NLRP3; inflammasome; caspase-1; HLA-DR; HLA-DRA; CD74;

    Sammanfattning : Staphylococcus aureus is a major pathogen responsible for a considerable disease burden worldwide. It may cause a wide array of infections, from superficial skin infections to invasive bacteremia and complications such as infective endocarditis (IE) and osteomyelitis. This thesis aimed to investigate aspects of the molecular epidemiology of S. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Biomarkers in sepsis and other severe infections

    Författare :Helena Janols; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunosuppression; myeloid-derived suppressor cells; T cells; dendritic cells; monocytes; sepsis; Biomarkers;

    Sammanfattning : Infectious diseases constitute a major global health problem. The presenting clinical picture results from a mixture of direct toxic actions by the microbiological agent and of the immune response mounted by the host. LÄS MER
