1. Gene-environment interactions for arsenic metabolism and metal-related oxidatively generated DNA damage
Sammanfattning : Over 100 million people around the world are exposed to high concentrations of arsenic (As) in drinking water, associated with a number of adverse health effects such as skin, lung and bladder cancer, vascular diseases and diabetes. In humans, As is metabolized via alternating reduction and methylation reactions, from inorganic As (iAs) into monomethylated (MMA) and dimethylated As (DMA). LÄS MER
2. Factors influencing the metabolism of inorganic arsenic in humans
Sammanfattning : Inorganic arsenic (iAs), a naturally occurring drinking water contaminant, is a potent human carcinogen and toxicant. It is believed that in humans, as well as in most mammals, inorganic arsenic is biotransformed via reduction and methylation using one-carbon metabolism with S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) as methyl donor, and is excreted mainly in urine as dimethylarsinate (DMA) and methylarsonate (MA) as well as some unmethylated iAs (arsenate (As(V)) and arsenite (As(III)). 3. Environmental arsenic exposure in humans : toxicity and adaptation in the Bolivian Andes
Sammanfattning : Arsenic, a potent toxicant and carcinogen, is naturally present in soil and leaches into groundwater. More than 140 million people worldwide are exposed to arsenic through drinking water. LÄS MER
