Sammanfattning : With the ongoing miniaturisation of devices, the interest in characterising nanoscale physical properties has strongly increased. To further advance the field of nanotechnology new scientific tools are required. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : AbstractCarbon nanotubes (CNTs) have extraordinary mechanical and electrical properties. Together with their small dimensions and low density, they are attractive candidates for building blocks in future nanoelectromechanical systems and for many other applications. LÄS MER
3. Understanding corrosion protection mechanisms of nanocomposite polymer coatings on carbon steel : A combination of in-situ AFM and electrochemical studies
Sammanfattning : Corrosion protection of carbon steel is crucial in today’s world and there is an urgent need to replace the hazardous compounds used with environmentally friendly anticorrosion coatings. In this European collaborative research project, new types of functional composite anticorrosion coatings for steel were developed with properties beyond the state-of-the-art using nanotechnology. 4. Fundamental in-situ and ex-situ studies of energy storage related materials including different applications of voltammetry
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a summary and discussion of eight papers dealing with failures and structural aspects of Ni-Cd industrial pocket plate batteries, applications of voltammetry in adsorption studies on goethite (a-FeOOH) surfaces and synthesis and characterisation of nanostructured carbons. The work consists of different areas of chemistry; electrochemistry, structural chemistry and solution chemistry. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the effect of microstructural variation on the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of ductile iron. To research and determine these effects, two grades of ductile iron, (i) GJS-500-7 and (ii) high silicon GJS-500-14, were cast in a geometry containing several plates with different section thicknesses in order to produce microstructural variation.
