1. Colliding asperities : a tribological event on micro scale
Sammanfattning : In order to predict and optimize energy efficiency, fuel consumption and service life, friction and wear need to be predetermined with higher accuracy than what is possible today. This prediction and optimization is crucial for the development of sustainable mechanical components and systems with excellent environmental performance. LÄS MER
2. On the deformation behavior and cracking of ductile iron; effect of microstructure
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the effect of microstructural variation on the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of ductile iron. To research and determine these effects, two grades of ductile iron, (i) GJS-500-7 and (ii) high silicon GJS-500-14, were cast in a geometry containing several plates with different section thicknesses in order to produce microstructural variation. 3. Viscous-brittle deformation of shallowly emplaced silicic magma : Implications for outgassing and volcanic hazards
Sammanfattning : Silicic magma in the shallow crust has the potential to violently erupt, depending on its ability to release overpressures caused by magmatic volatiles (outgassing). Deformation-induced outgassing is prevalent along volcanic conduit margins, where ascending magma is sheared at high rates. LÄS MER
4. Microstructure and deformation behaviour of ductile iron under tensile loading
Sammanfattning : The current thesis focuses on the deformation behaviour and strain distribution in the microstructure of ductile iron during tensile loading. Utilizing Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and in-situ tensile test under optical microscope, a method was developed to measure high resolution strain in microstructural constitutes. LÄS MER
5. Constraining the timing of veins, faults and fractures in crystalline rocks by in situ Rb-Sr geochronology
Sammanfattning : Precambrian cratons are continent cores archiving the oldest crustal histories on Earth. The crystalline basement of cratons is typically characterized by complex arrays of multiple fracture and fault generations hosting minerals formed by fluids flowing through fracture networks. LÄS MER
