6. Microscopy of high temperature oxidation of iron and some stainless steels
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the high temperature oxidation of iron and some stainless steels. The oxide scales, as well as the subjacent metal, were investigated using a range of electron and ion microscopy techniques, including SEM, TEM, EDX and FIB. The aim was to link the microstructural observations to the oxidation mechanisms of the materials. LÄS MER
7. Mechanistic studies of localized corrosion of Al alloys by high resolution in-situ and ex-situ probing techniques
Sammanfattning : A multi-analytical approach based on in-situ and ex-situ local probing techniques was employed to investigate localized corrosion mechanisms of some aluminum alloys in chloride containing solutions, focusing on the influence of intermetallic particles (IMPs) in the alloys. In the EN AW-3003 alloy, SEM-EDS analysis revealed constituent and dispersoid IMPs. LÄS MER
8. In-situ activated hydrogen evolution from pH-neutral electrolytes
Sammanfattning : The goal of this work was to better understand how molybdate and trivalent cations can be used as additives to pH neutral electrolytes to activate the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER). Special emphasis was laid on the chlorate process and therefore also to some of the other effects that the additives may have in that particular process. LÄS MER
9. Using Light to Probe Surface Electrochemical Processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis shows how various light-based in situ techniques can be used to follow different surface electrochemical processes such as electrochemical deposition into Nanoporous Anodic Aluminium Oxide (NP-AAO) templates and the surface structure of electrodes. Techniques based on both x-rays and visible light were used to follow surface structures and compositions, in situ. LÄS MER
10. Molecular organization and in situ assembly of the human skin barrier
Sammanfattning : A deficient skin barrier function is a characteristic feature of skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis and the ichtyoses. A malformation of the lipid matrix might be a major factor in barrier deficient skin disease. LÄS MER
