3. Phase transformation and surface chemistry of secondary iron minerals formed from acid mine drainage
Sammanfattning : The mining of sulphidic ore to extract metals such as zinc and copper produces huge quantities of waste material. The weathering and oxidation of the waste produces what is commonly known as Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), a dilute sulphuric acid rich in Fe(II) and heavy metals. LÄS MER
4. Theoretical studies of blue copper proteins
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a critical investigation is presented about the role of mechanical strain for the electron-transfer properties of the blue copper proteins. It has been found that the structure of a realistic model complex of the oxidised blue-copper active site, optimised in vacuum with the B3LYP method, has the same trigonal cupric geometry as in the protein. 5. Refined crystal structures of Zn(II)- and Cu(II)-alcohol dehydrogenase : a comparative study
Sammanfattning : The crystal structure of the ternary complex of horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase (LADH) with the coenzyme NADH and inhibitor dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) (space group PI) has been refined by simulated annealing with molecular dynamics and restrained positional refinement using the program system XPLOR. The resulting crystallographic R- factor is 17. LÄS MER
