11. Mechanical Analysis of Melamine-Formaldehyde Composites
Sammanfattning : Planar random fibre composite materials based on melamine-formaldehyde (MF), one of the hardest and stiffest isotropic polymers that is known, have been developed recently on an industrial scale. In this thesis the mechanical behaviour of these materials is systematically investigated for the first time. LÄS MER
12. On multiscale modeling of pearlitic steel
Sammanfattning : By studying pearlitic steels using a scanning electron microscope it can be observed that pearlite is a two-phase material with cementite lamellae embedded in a matrix of ferrite. The cementite is commonly described as being stiff and brittle in comparison to the ferrite which is considered to have a soft and ductile mechanical behavior. LÄS MER
13. Microstructure of Zirconium Alloys Oxidized in Steam
Sammanfattning : Zirconium alloys are widely used in nuclear reactors as fuel cladding tubes because of their low thermal neutron capture cross-section, good corrosion properties and satisfactory mechanical properties. However, the main limiting factor of these materials is the oxidation behavior. LÄS MER
14. Laboratory studies of dynamic rock fracture and in-situ measurements of cutter forces for a boring machine
Sammanfattning : All forms of rock failure usually happen within a very wide range of loading rates covering static and dynamic loading. Since rock failure always results from fracture - the propagation of one or more cracks- the first part of the thesis is focused on laboratory studies of the influences of loading rates on rock fracture. 15. Meso-Mechanical Modeling of Thin Adhesive Layers
Sammanfattning : A thin adhesive layer is analyzed using a representative volume element (RVE). The RVE is comprised by, both continuum and interfacial finite elements. The interface elements allow for crack initiation and crack propagation. To obtain realistic results from the RVE simulation, an in situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study is performed. LÄS MER
