    Sammanfattning : The diplomonads are a diverse group of eukaryotic microbes found in oxygen limited environments such as the intestine of animals were they may cause severe disease. Among them, the prominent human parasite Giardia intestinalis non-invasively colonizes the small intestine of humans and animals where it induces the gastrointestinal disease giardiasis. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Defining human adaptive immune gene diversity

    Författare :Sanjana Narang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The lymphocytes (B and T cells) of the adaptive immune system undergo variable (V), diversity (D), and junctional (J) gene recombination, resulting in highly diverse antigen receptor repertoires capable of recognizing a wide variety of invading pathogens. The B cell receptor (BCR) contains two identical heavy and light chains. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Population Genetic Methods and Applications to Human Genomes

    Författare :Lucie Gattepaille; Mattias Jakobsson; Kevin Thornton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Population genetics; Human evolution; Genetic diversity; Genetic differentiation; Adaptation; Population structure; Effective population size; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Population Genetics has led to countless numbers of fruitful studies of evolution, due to its abilities for prediction and description of the most important evolutionary processes such as mutation, genetic drift and selection. The field is still growing today, with new methods and models being developed to answer questions of evolutionary relevance and to lift the veil on the past of all life forms. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Mental ill health and diversity : Researching human suffering and resilience in a multicultural context

    Författare :Karin Ingvarsdotter; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The general objective of this dissertation was to study the putative underutilisation of mental health services in a multicultural context. The method followed a qualitative interview-based naturalistic approach, and the interview format was primarily semi-structured. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Religion in Nordic Politics as a Means to Societal Cohesion : An Empirical Study on Party Platforms and Parliamentary Debates 1988–2012

    Sammanfattning : In this study, I address the relationship between religion and politics in the Nordic countries, 1988–2012, against a background of increasing religious diversity alongside more or less continuous relationships between church and state. My aim is to analyse possible changes in the way religion is referred to by Nordic parliamentary parties, and in the way these parties use religion as a means to societal cohesion. LÄS MER
