1. Species interactions and community structure
Sammanfattning : In this theses I have focused on how the mechanisms of species interactions affect community structure. It is well known that certain species may have a particularly strong influence on the structure of a community. What is not fully understood is how to characterize these species that have such a strong impact on community structure. LÄS MER
2. Population Genetic Methods and Applications to Human Genomes
Sammanfattning : Population Genetics has led to countless numbers of fruitful studies of evolution, due to its abilities for prediction and description of the most important evolutionary processes such as mutation, genetic drift and selection. The field is still growing today, with new methods and models being developed to answer questions of evolutionary relevance and to lift the veil on the past of all life forms. LÄS MER
3. Finding fitness : empirical and theoretical explorations of inferring fitness effects from population-level SNP data
Sammanfattning : The distribution of fitness effects (DFE) describes the likelihood that a new mutation has a specific effect on the fitness of an individual in a given population. The shape of the DFE is a result of several factors such as population size, mating system and selective environment, and can in turn influence the evolutionary potential of a species. LÄS MER
4. Genetic structure and dispersal in plant populations
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the spatial structure and methods to identify spatial structure in plants. Methods that investigate genetic structure can mainly be divided into equilibrium methods that reveal summed dispersal over many generations, and cluster methods, that reveal more recent dispersal events. 5. Population genetic history and patterns of admixture : Examples from northeastern and southern Africa
Sammanfattning : The origin of humans lies in Africa, as has been shown by archaeology, paleontology and genetics. Here, we can find the largest genetic diversity and the deepest split among human populations. African genetic diversity has been shaped by a long and complex history. LÄS MER
