  1. 6. Immunometabolic patterns in psychiatric disease

    Författare :Mikaela Syk; Janet Cunningham; Lisa Ekselius; Annica J. Rasmusson; Robert Fredriksson; Brenda Penninx; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Psychiatry; Human; Autoimmunity; Cytokines; Inflammation; Adiponectin; Leptin; CNS damage; NfL; Tau; GFAp; Biomarkers; Depression; Neuroticism; Bulimia nervosa; Psychiatry; Psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : Many forms of immune system dysregulation are linked to psychiatric disorders. This thesis examines specific types of immune dysregulation in broad cohorts with psychiatric disease. The first section focuses on adipokines and other immunometabolic biomarkers and their interaction with state vs. trait symptoms. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Exercise-induced muscle soreness : a qualitative and quantitative study of human muscle morphology and function

    Författare :Jan Fridén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; exercise; exertion; eccentric contractions; muscles; muscle strength; muscle soreness; fibre types; myofibrils; muscle proteins; histocy to chemistry; ultrastructure; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : Exercise-induced muscle soreness is characterized by stiffness, tenderness and pain during active movements and weakness of the affected musculature the days after unusually or particularly heavy work. The most pronounced subjective symptoms do not arise immediately but rather between a couple of hours to some days after the exercise (a delayed-onset of muscle soreness), the intensity of pain is greatest about 48 hours after the work. 3. 8. Chemically Induced DNA Damage in Extended-term Cultures of Human Lymphocytes

    Författare :Maria Andersson; Björn Hellman; Leif Busk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; Comet assay; DNA-damaging agents; DNA repair; Extended-term Cultures of Human Lymphocytes; Genotoxicity; Induced DNA damage; In vitro; Mouse Lymphoma Cells; Primary Cell Cultures; Reactive Oxygen Species; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Generation of DNA damage is regarded to be an important initial event in the development cancer. Consequently, a battery of tests have been developed to detect different types of genotoxic effects in order to be able to predict the potential genotoxicity and mutagenicity of chemicals, including both pharmaceutical drugs and various types of environmental and occupational agents, as well as dietary factors. 4. 9. Att göra för att förstå - konstruktion för rehabilitering

    Författare :Björn Breidegard; Certec - Rehabiliteringsteknik och Design; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Design methodology; Finger tracking; Engineering knowledge; Minimeter; Rehabilitation engineering; Tactile pictures; Top-down design; Care and help to handicapped; Handikappade; vård och rehabilitering; Braille; Brain injury; Brain damage; Communication tool;

    Sammanfattning : Based on the results of two rehabilitation engineering design projects, this thesis aims to present and analyze: ? What is required for genuine engineering knowledge and expertise to come into its own in rehabilitation engineering when the entire effort starts and ends with the person for whom it is intended. ? How the work of an engineer not only can improve the conditions for the actual doing, but can also contribute to the understanding of situations and people, their capabilities, desires and needs. 5. 10. Epidermal keratinocytes studied by X-ray microanalysis, with special reference to contact dermatitis : In vivo and in vitro studies of functional changes in human cells

    Författare :Anders Grängsjö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; X-ray microanalysis; elements; epidermis; keratinocytes; proliferation; cell membrane damage; Ki67; irritants; intracellular elemental content; keratinocyte culture; HaCaT; NHEK; RT-PCR; immunohistochemistry; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : By determining the intracellular elemental content, information can be obtained on the physiological status of cells. The cellular content of sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, chloride, potassium and calcium can be indicative for proliferation, cell membrane damage or cell death. LÄS MER
