  1. 16. The regulation of muscle interstitial insulin, nutrients and blood flow in insulin resistant models. An investigation using the euglycemic insulin clamp and microdialysis techniques

    Författare :Maria Niklasson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; insulin resistance; skeletal muscle; glucose uptake; transcapillary transport; interstitial fluid; euglycemic insulinclamp; microdialysis; blood flow; vasodilation;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance, mainly located to the skeletal muscle tissue, is one prominent feature in thedevelopment of non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and further, associated withcardiovascular diseases. In this context the importance of blood flow for insulin sensitivity has beensuggested by regulating the delivery of insulin and nutrients to the target cells. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Adrenergic signaling in insulin-sensitive tissues

    Författare :Daniel L. Yamamoto; Tore Bengtsson; Barbara Cannon; Michael Cawthorne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Adrenergic; Glucose; Signaling; Skeletal muscle; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose metabolism in insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue is tightly regulated by external stimuli. Metabolic changes in these tissues have direct effects on whole body metabolism. Such metabolic changes can be induced or influenced by adrenergic stimulation. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in the regulation of insulin sensitivity : an experimental study in rat and human adipocytes

    Författare :Magdalena Lundgren; Jan Eriksson; Jonas Burén; Eva Degerman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; adipose tissue; cAMP; glucocorticoids; glucose; insulin; insulin resistance; lipolysis; subcutaneous fat; type 2 diabetes; visceral fat; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity and specifically central obesity is related to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and other components of the so-called metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to elucidate the interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in normal and insulin-resistant fat cell metabolism. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Protein kinases in hormonal regulation of adipocyte metabolism

    Författare :Christine Berggreen; Proteinfosforylering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adipocyte; PKB; AMPK; SIK3; insulin; catecholamines; lipolysis; lipogenesis; glucose uptake; de novo fatty acid synthesis; A769662; Akti; cAMP;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Along with liver and muscle tissue, adipose tissue helps maintain normal levels of glucose and lipids in the blood and has a very important role when it comes to storing lipids that can provide whole-body energy. After a meal is ingested, adipocytes take up glucose from the circulation and use it as a substrate for synthesis of new fatty acids (FAs) in a process known as de novo fatty acid synthesis, as well as for synthesis of glycerol. 5. 20. Exercising on the edge: mitochondrial and metabolic responses to intense training

    Författare :Mikael Flockhart; Filip J Larsen; Eva Blomstrand; Nikolai Baastrup Nordsborg; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exercise; training; mitochondria; performance; glucose tolerance; proteins; oxygen uptake; metabolism; cycling; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Exercise and exercise training induces several physiological adaptations that increase the oxidative capacity of the muscles and improve glucose regulation. While the positive metabolic adaptations and effects on glucose regulation after exercise and exercise training have been extensively studied, negative outcomes have not. LÄS MER
