  1. 1. Phase Phenomena in Polymer Networks : Empirical Studies on the Influence of Hydrophobicity, Charge Density and Crosslinks on Macroion-Induced Phase Transitions in Polyelectrolyte Gels

    Författare :Martin Andersson; Per Hansson; Lennart Piculell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gel; microgel; microsphere; polystyrenesulfonate; polyacrylate; polyacrylicacid; DoTAB; DoTAC; CTAB; CTAC; network; polyelectrolyte; complex salt; self assembly; phase behaviour; hysteresis; thermodynamic; core-shell; lysozyme; cytochrome c; microscopy; micromanipulator; elastomer; elastic; protein; surfactant; phase behaviour; sorting; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns polyelectrolyte gels in contact with oppositely charged proteins and surfactant micelles, and includes of four papers (I-IV). In paper I confocal Raman spectroscopy was introduced as a method to trace micelles and investigate the structure of gel-surfactant complexes, in phase separated gel spheres. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Crosslinking of Polymers. Molecular Structure and Properties of Sol and Network

    Författare :Helena Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PDMS; long chain branchin; entanglement; crosslinking; contamination; network; bimodal; Silicone; polyethylene;

    Sammanfattning : Crosslinking is a well-known procedure for improving a variety of features of polymers, particularly the dimension stability at elevated temperatures. Crosslinking implies the formation of a network, the gel, but there is always a certain portion of the material, the sol, that remains non-crosslinked within the network. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Generic Properties of Polymer Solutions

    Författare :Takashi Uematsu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photon correlation spectroscopy; collective diffusion; atomic force microscopy; relaxation; agarose gel electrophoresis; DNA; Zimm dynamics; pulsed-field gradient NMR; superdiffusion; polymer solution; blob model; gel;

    Sammanfattning : Polymer solutions are abundantly present in our daily life, for example in paints, jellies, contact lenses and even in the living cells. Despite their ubiquity, we still have a poor understanding of the physical properties of solutions due to the extremely large number of internal degrees of freedom. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Nano-particulate Silica Hydrogels Imaged in 2D and 3D using TEM: Effects of local pore structure on mass transport and applications in aggregation dynamics

    Författare :Charlotte Hamngren Blomqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; silica gel; colloidal silica gel; interconnectivity; nanoporous; electron tomography; silica nanoparticle gel; mass transport; nanostructure; accessible volume fraction; 3D structure;

    Sammanfattning : Porous materials are frequently used in everyday applications including food science, pharmaceuticals, fuel cell membranes, batteries and solar cells. A key aspect in these porous materials is how their micro- and nano-structure affect the internal transport of for example water, particles or charges. The transport is a three-dimensional process. 5. 5. Studies on fibrin gel structure

    Författare :Kamaran T Fatah; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Fibrinogen; fibrin gel structure; plasma; thrombin; fibrinolysis; fibrin gel; zinc ion; plasminogen; crosslinking; acetylsalicylic acid; atherosclerosis; coronary heart disease;

    Sammanfattning : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques.
