  1. 1. Managing high environmental performance? : Applying life cycle approaches and environmental certification tools in the building and real estate sectors

    Författare :Nils W. O. Brown; Tove Malmqvist; Peter Guthrie; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Buildings; operational energy use; life cycle assessment; environmental certification; environmental assessment; renovation; strategy; design process; value creation; embodied environmental impacts; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis is  to demonstrate and critically assess life cycle approaches’ and environmental certification (EC) tools’ potential for supporting decisions for improved environmental performance in the building and real estate sectors.Using life cycle approaches, the thesis shows that for new build and renovation cases aiming for low operational energy use that embodied global warming potential (GWP) due to material production can constitute a large portion of a building’s lifetime GWP. 2. 2. Valuation of environmental impacts and its use in environmental systems analysis tools

    Författare :Sofia Ahlroth; Göran Finnveden; Lars Drake; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; valuation; weighting; ecosystem services; elimate change; impact assessment; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Valuation of environmental impacts in monetary terms is a both difficult and controversial undertaking. However, the need to highlight the value of ecosystem services in policy decisions has become more and more evident in the face of climate change and diminishing biodiversity in the sea and other ecosystems. 3. 3. Communication of life cycle assessment results : life cycle key performance indicators

    Författare :Helena Nydahl; Thomas Olofsson; Anders P. Åstrand; Staffan Andersson; Åsa Wahlström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Life Cycle Assessment; Monetary Valuation; Climate Impact; Life Cycle Key Performance Indicators; Global Warming Potential; LCA-result communication; Interpretation of LCA-results; climate change; klimatförändringar;

    Sammanfattning : The global warming that we are on track for will result in a severe loss of natural capital leading to significant losses in economic capital when urban infrastructure is destroyed, agricultural productivity declines and poverty spread among other disasters. Climate change due to emissions does not only affect the polluter, the hazardous effects becomes evident on a global level. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Valuing environmental benefits using the contingent valuation method : an econometric analysis

    Författare :Bengt Kriström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; environmental benefits; contingent valuation; econometrics; discrete response data; continuous and discrete valuation questions; cost-benefit analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study is to investigate methods for assessing the value people place on preserving our natural environments and resources. It focuses on the contingent valuation method, which is a method for directly asking people about their preferences. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Biomass in a Sustainable Energy System

    Författare :Pål Börjesson; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kontroll av utsläpp; Miljöteknik; pollution control; Environmental technology; economic valuation; environmental impact; carbon dioxide; Biomass; energy efficiency; Energiforskning; Energy research;

    Sammanfattning : The increased use of biomass for energy is as a key strategy in reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emission, which represents the largest anthropogenic contribution to the greenhouse effect. In this thesis, aspects of an increase in the utilisation of biomass in the Swedish energy system are treated. LÄS MER
