36. Mixed Effects Modelling and Optimal Design of TNFα Response in LPS Challenge Studies - Methods and Applications in Drug Discovery
Sammanfattning : ''Endotoxin and mycoplasma are Nature’s darkest secrets. If they are ever solved, Hell itself will open.'' - Lewis Thomas* Endotoxin, or lipopolysaccharides (LPS), are heterogeneous components from the cell wall of Gram-Negative bacteria and a common challenger in the field of drug discovery. 37. Continuity of care after hospitalization due to cardiac conditions : Patients' perceptions, validity and reliability of a measure, and associations with outcomes
Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiac conditions are a common cause of hospitalization worldwide. The need for healthcare continues after hospital discharge and most commonly includes follow-up within primary healthcare centers or specialized outpatient cardiology clinics. LÄS MER
38. Biomarkers of ionising radiation relevant to carcinogenesis : Dose, dose rate and LET dependency of the responses
Sammanfattning : A better understanding of the relationship between ionising radiation (IR) dose, dose rate and radiation quality, and the risk of stochastic effects would improve risk extrapolation from atomic bomb survivors’ data. Owing to insufficient statistical power of epidemiological studies to detect excess incidence of cancer following low doses of IR delivered at low dose rates (LDLDR), as typically encountered in most common human exposure scenarios, radiobiological experiments are fundamental to describe the biological effectiveness of LDLDR and to define the underlying molecular mechanisms. 39. Drug and alcohol induced hepatotoxicity
Sammanfattning : Drug induced hepatotoxicity is the most common reason cited for withdrawal of already approved drugs from the market and accounts for more than 50 percent of cases of acute liver failure in the United States. Ethanol (EtOH) causes a further substantial amount of liver insufficiencies world wide. LÄS MER
40. Transcriptome based analysis of Hodgkin lymphoma : insights into the microenvironment
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the analysis of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), in particular the complex interaction between the malignant cells and the abnormally behaving bystander cells, and this complexity of the inflammatory infiltrate in HL constantly challenge scientists. The common thread in this thesis is the usage of gene expression profiling of whole tumour tissues, laser-captured Hodgkin Reed Sternberg (H-RS) cells and of cell-lines. LÄS MER
