1. Carbon-based magnetic nanomaterials
Sammanfattning : Magnetism of carbon-based materials is a challenging area for both fundamental research and possible applications. We present studies of low-dimensional carbon-based magnetic systems (fullerene-diluted molecular magnets, carbon nanotubes, graphite fluoride, and nanoporous carbon) by means of SQUID magnetometer, X-ray diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy, the latter techniques used as complementary instruments to find a correlation between the magnetic behaviour and the structure of the samples. 2. Electrochemical and ion transport characterisation of a nanoporous carbon derived from SiC
Sammanfattning : In this doctoral project, a relatively new form of carbon material, with unique narrow pore size distribution around 7 Å and with uniform structure, has been electrochemically characterised using the single particle microelectrode technique. The carbon has been used as electrode material for supercapacitors. LÄS MER
3. Structured Nanoporous Materials for Biogas Upgrading
Sammanfattning : Porous materials have shown potential for solving one of the significant challenges to sequestering CO2 gas from point sources. Microporous materials, zeolites and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous materials with tailorable adsorptive properties to develop higher performance for an energy-efficient CO2 separation. 4. Preparation and Evaluation of New Nanoporous Silica Materials for Molecular Filtration and for Core Materials in Vacuum Insulation Panels
Sammanfattning : Nanoporous materials for gas purification and thermal insulation have been studied and developed for application in many areas. It is known that a single adsorbent may not adequately control multiple contaminants. Further the utilization of nanoporous material as thermal insulator in building applications is limited due to high cost. LÄS MER
5. Fundamental in-situ and ex-situ studies of energy storage related materials including different applications of voltammetry
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a summary and discussion of eight papers dealing with failures and structural aspects of Ni-Cd industrial pocket plate batteries, applications of voltammetry in adsorption studies on goethite (a-FeOOH) surfaces and synthesis and characterisation of nanostructured carbons. The work consists of different areas of chemistry; electrochemistry, structural chemistry and solution chemistry. LÄS MER
