  1. 1. Chloride Homeostasis in Central Neurons

    Författare :Tushar Yelhekar; Staffan Johansson; Michael Druzin; Merab Kokaia; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chloride concentration; current-voltage relation; interpolation; voltage ramp; reversal potential; [Cl–]i recovery; KCC2; extracellular matrix; GABAA receptor; chloride leak conductance; neurosteroid; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present thesis is to clarify the control of intracellular chloride homeostasis in central neurons, because of the critical role of chloride ions (Cl–) for neuronal function. Normal function of the central nervous system (CNS) depends on a delicate balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Chloride initiated reinforcement corrosion in marine concrete

    Författare :Paul Sandberg; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; w c ratio; cover thickness; chloride penetration; service life prediction; corrosion cells; chloride thresholds; field exposure tests; marine concrete; pozzolans; reinforcement corrosion; chloride binding; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Factors affecting the total chloride threshold for initiation of pitting corrosion in reinforced concrete were investigated by means of field and laboratory exposure tests. Factors affecting the chloride penetration into concrete were also investigated by means of field tests. The thesis consists of a summary (86 p.) and 11 papers attached. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation of Dust Suppressants for Gravel Roads: Methods Development and Efficiency Studies

    Författare :Karin Oscarsson; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gravel road; dust; particulate matter; PM10; horizontal dust diffusion; deteriorations; maintenance; dust control; dust suppressants; efficiency; application rate; leaching; residual concentration; seasonal variations; salt solution; solid salt; calcium chloride; magnesium chloride; lignosulphonate; polysaccharide sugar ; bitumen emulsion; rape oil; starch; surfactant; mesa; clay; fine material content.; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis; Komplexa system - mikrodataanalys;

    Sammanfattning : Application of the proper dust suppressant to a gravel road ensures road safety and riding comfort as well as creating a cleaner and healthier environment for residents in buildings adjacent to the road. It also reduces the need and cost for vehicle repair, road maintenance activities, and aggregate supplementation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Evaluation of Dust Suppressants for Gravel Roads : Methods Development and Efficiency Studies

    Författare :Karin Edvardsson; Björn Birgisson; Andrew Dawson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Gravel road; dust; particulate matter; PM10; horizontal dust diffusion; deteriorations; maintenance; dust control; dust suppressants; efficiency; application rate; leaching; residual concentration; seasonal variations; salt solution; solid salt; calcium chloride; magnesium chloride; lignosulphonate; polysaccharide sugar ; bitumen emulsion; rape oil; starch; surfactant; mesa; clay; fine material content;

    Sammanfattning : Approximately 75 percent (300 000 km) of the total Swedish road network and 20 percent(20 000 km) of the national road network consists of gravel roads. One of the most significantproblems associated with gravel roads is traffic-generated dust emission, which contributes tothe deterioration of the road surface and acts as a major source of particulate matter releasedinto the atmosphere, thereby involving public economics, road safety, human health, andenvironmental quality. 5. 5. EstimatingChloride concentration in surface water and groundwater duet to deicing salt application

    Författare :Eva-Lotta Thunqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :road; deicing salt; monitoring; chloride; catchment area; river basin; simulation; GIS; groundwater; surface water;

    Sammanfattning : A road in operation along with its traffic can pose aserious pollutant threat to groundwater and surface water inits vicinity. Examples of pollutants are metals from thecorrosion of vehicles, rails and poles and the wear of roadsurfaces and tyres; hydrocarbons from the wear of roadsurfaces, tyres, exhausts, oils; sodium chloride from roadsalt; and hazardous goods discharged in accidents.
