  1. 1. Wastewater discharges and microbial variability in a surface water source

    Författare :Johan Åström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; faecal indicators; pathogens; drinking-water; microbial risk assessment; variability; rainfall; catchment; wastewater; surface water; Hazardous events;

    Sammanfattning : Planning for drinking-water safety in surface waters includes a systematic assessment of hazards in the catchment, and microbial contamination is considered a major health risk. The aim of this thesis was to identify and characterize microbial hazardous events reported for River Göta älv, Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Seasonal variation and landscape regulation of dissolved organic carbon concentrations and character in Swedish boreal streams

    Författare :Anneli Ågren; Mats Jansson; Irena Creed; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DOC; temporal variation; spatial variation; seasonal variation; forested catchment; wetland catchment; catchment characteristics; DOC characteristics; absorbance-ratio; bioavailability.; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The seasonal variation and landscape regulation of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations in streams have been studied in two watersheds in the boreal zone. The seasonal variation was found to be highly correlated to variations in runoff. An increase in runoff was always accompanied with an increase in DOC concentration. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Spatiotemporal streamflow variability in a boreal landscape : Importance of landscape composition for catchment hydrological functioning

    Författare :Reinert Huseby Karlsen; Jan Seibert; Kevin Bishop; Thomas Grabs; Sarah E. Godsey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; streamflow; catchment hydrology; boreal; water balance; spatiotemporal variability; landscape analysis; climate change; recession curve; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of how different parts of a landscape contribute to streamflow by storing and releasing water has long been a central issue in hydrology. Knowledge about what controls streamflow dynamics across landscapes can further our understanding of how catchments store and release water, facilitate predictions for ungauged catchments, and improve the management of water quality and resources. 4. 4. EstimatingChloride concentration in surface water and groundwater duet to deicing salt application

    Författare :Eva-Lotta Thunqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :road; deicing salt; monitoring; chloride; catchment area; river basin; simulation; GIS; groundwater; surface water;

    Sammanfattning : A road in operation along with its traffic can pose aserious pollutant threat to groundwater and surface water inits vicinity. Examples of pollutants are metals from thecorrosion of vehicles, rails and poles and the wear of roadsurfaces and tyres; hydrocarbons from the wear of roadsurfaces, tyres, exhausts, oils; sodium chloride from roadsalt; and hazardous goods discharged in accidents. 5. 5. Greenhouse Gas Dynamics in Ice-covered Lakes Across Spatial and Temporal Scales

    Författare :Blaize Amber Denfeld; Gesa Weyhenmeyer; Kimberly Wickland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :carbon cycle; climate change; cryosphere; carbon dioxide; methane; lakes; winter limnology; methane oxidation; nutrients; catchment; Limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Lakes play a major role in the global carbon (C) cycle, despite making up a small area of earth’s surface. Lakes receive, transport and process sizable amounts of C, emitting a substantial amount of the greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), into the atmosphere. LÄS MER
