  1. 1. Adjusting to the extreme : Thermal adaptation in a freshwater gastropod

    Författare :Magnus Johansson; Laurila Anssi; Robby Stoks; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radix balthica; Lake Mývatn; geothermal springs; thermal adaptation; isolation by environment; population structure; gene flow; cogradient variation; AFLP; thermal preference; CTmax; Biologi med inriktning mot populationsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Temperature is a ubiquitous force influencing biological processes ranging from cellular responses to life span. The thermal environment for many organisms is predicted to change with globally increasing temperatures and studies conducted in natural systems incorporating various evolutionary forces, such as gene flow, is needed. 2. 2. Reasoning with thermal cameras : Framing and meaning-making in naturalistic settings in higher education

    Författare :Robin Samuelsson; Jesper Haglund; Maja Elmgren; Cedric Linder; Tor Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics Education Research; IR cameras; thermal cameras; thermodynamics; phase transition; heat transfer; Resources framework; Social semiotics; teacher education; chemistry education; visualization; Fysikdidaktik; kemididaktik; värmekamera; lärarutbildning; termodynamik; fasövergång; lärandesekvens; Socialsemiotik; Resursramverket; Physics with specialization in Physics Education; Fysik med inriktning mot fysikens didaktik;

    Sammanfattning : In this Licentiate thesis, framed by the Resources framework and Social semiotics, I explore how students and instructors, investigating thermal phenomena with IR cameras, come to conceptually and epistemologically frame the naturalistic settings they participate in. Additionally, I look at how they productively employ resources , what barriers they encounter while reasoning about the thermal phenomena and how the semiotic resources of the IR camera relate to the framing and resources employed in their investigations. 3. 3. Detection and Tracking in Thermal Infrared Imagery

    Författare :Amanda Berg; Michael Felsberg; Jörgen Ahlberg; Thomas B. Moeslund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermal; infrared; detection; tracking;

    Sammanfattning : Thermal cameras have historically been of interest mainly for military applications. Increasing image quality and resolution combined with decreasing price and size during recent years have, however, opened up new application areas. They are now widely used for civilian applications, e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Thermal Barrier Coatings : Failure Mechanisms and Life Prediction

    Författare :Krishna Praveen Jonnalagadda; Ru Lin Peng; Xin-Hai Li; Robert Eriksson; Nicholls John; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) use in the hot sections of gas turbine engine enables them to run at higher temperatures, and as a consequence, achieve higher thermal efficiency. For full operational exploitation of TBCs, understanding their failure and knowing the service life is essential. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Thermal stresses in load-bearing glass-timber components

    Författare :Karin Lundstedt; Erik Serrano; Ola Dahlblom; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Thermal stresses; thermal failure; glass and wood construction; incident solar radiation; shading; cracks; temperature difference; finite element method.; Technology byts ev till Engineering ; Teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Thermal stresses can arise in glass used in architectonic realisations in buildings as a result of solar irradiation:  that is, sunlight.  The magnitude of these thermal stresses depends on the temperature conditions in the glass in terms of the temperature differences between warm and cold areas.
