  1. 26. Collective Structure of Neutron-Rich Rare-Earth Nuclei and Development of Instrumentation for Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy

    Författare :Pär-Anders Söderström; Johan Nyberg; Ayşe Ataç; John Simpson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nuclear structure; collective models; 150 < A < 189; AGATA; HPGe detectors; gamma-ray tracking; NEDA; pulse-shape discrimination; neutrons; neural network; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Neutron-rich rare-earth nuclei are among the most collective nuclei that can be found in nature. In particular, the doubly mid-shell nucleus 170Dy is expected to be the nucleus where the collective structure is maximized. LÄS MER

  2. 27. SmCo for polymer bonded magnets : Corrosion, silanization, rheological, mechanical and magnetic properties

    Författare :Muhammad Irfan Qadeer; Steven Savage; Mikael Hedenqvist; Uta Klement; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Organofunctional alkoxysilanes; High temperature oxidation; Rare-earth magnetic alloys; SmCo; Isothermal; Non-isothermal; Microstructure; Magnetic properties;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the study of organofunctional alkoxysilane coatings to prevent high temperature oxidation of Sm-Co powders. Sm-Co are important permanent magnetic alloys, owing to their high Curie temperature and large values of magnetocrystalline anisotropy. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Quantum computing with naturally trapped sub-nanometre-spaced ions

    Författare :Lars Rippe; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laserteknik; Laser technology; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; akustik; optik; Elektromagnetism; optics; acoustics; Electromagnetism; Fysik; Physics; entanglement; spectroscopy; rare-earth-metal-ion-doped crystals spectral hole-burning; inversion; excitation; laser stabilization; quantum computation; quantum gate;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this work, was to lay the foundations for the experimental realisation of a quantum mechanical controlled NOT gate in rare-earth-metal-ion-doped crystals. Small amounts of rare-earth elements, added during the growth of some inorganic crystals, will become substituted into the crystal lattice as trivalent ions. LÄS MER

  4. 29. New and old materials for permanent magnets based on earth-abundant elements

    Författare :Daniel Hedlund; Peter Svedlindh; Martin Sahlberg; Mogens Christensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; permanent magnets; material development; sustainability; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Electrical motors, which find use in e.g. electrical vehicles, require per-manent magnets to function. Comparing ferrite magnets and Nd-based magnets reveals a large difference in their price and performance. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Cohesive and Spectroscopic properties of the Lanthanides within the Hubbard I Approximation

    Författare :Inka Laura Marie Locht; Igor Di Marco; Olle Eriksson; Annalisa Fasolino; Mikhail I. Katsnelson; Tim Wehling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lantanides; rare earths; cohesive properties; volume; bulk modulus; magnetism; magnetic properties; photoemission spectroscopy; XPS; BIS; Hubbard I Approximation; DMFT; DFT; RSPt; Full Potential Linear Muffin-tin orbitals; 4f electrons; localization; bonding; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Sammanfattning : We describe the rare-earth elements using the Hubbard I approximation. We show that the theory reproduces the cohesive properties, like the volume and bulk modulus, and we find an excellent agreement between theory and experiment for the (inverse) photo emission spectra of the valence band.
