26. Wear and Loosening in Cemented Hip Arthroplasty
Sammanfattning : The mechanisms of loosening in total hip arthroplasty (THA) and the role of polyethylene (PE) wear debris in this process is unclear. Radiographic measurements showed that THA with 32 mm heads have about 3 times greater volumetric wear than those with 22 mm heads. LÄS MER
27. Clavicle Fractures : Epidemiology, classification, treatment and outcome, with emphasis on displaced lateral clavicle fractures
Sammanfattning : The rate of surgical treatment for clavicle fractures has increased dramatically in the past 20 years, but the necessity for this remains obscure, particularly for displaced lateral clavicle fractures. The overall aim of the thesis is to acquire knowledge that may help guide treatment decisions for clavicle fractures, with an emphasis on displaced lateral fractures. LÄS MER
28. Bone Enhancement with BMP-2 for Safe Clinical Translation
Sammanfattning : Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) is considered a promising adjuvant for the treatment of bone regeneration. However, BMP-2 delivery in a conventional collagen scaffold needs a high dose to achieve an effective outcome. Moreover, such dosage may lead to serious side effects. LÄS MER
29. Non-ionic contrast media in acrylic bone cement
Sammanfattning : Non-ionic, water-soluble, contrast media, iohexol and/or iodixanol, have been investigated for use in acrylic bone cement aimed for arthroplasty. Bone cement, containing the new particulate contrast media , was investigated for: quasi-static mechanical properties, water uptake properties, release of contrast media from the bone cement, biological responses from particulate bone cement, polymerisation reaction, polymerisation temperature, glass transition temperature, injectability and penetration into human cancellous bone, and radiopacity. 30. Lumbar spinal stenosis : Body mass index and the patient's perspective
Sammanfattning : During recent decades, lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) has become the most common indication for spine surgery, a change that coincides with a higher worldwide prevalence of overweight and obesity. Thus, surgical treatment of LSS in the overweight and obese population is common and increasing in scope. LÄS MER
