  1. 11. Nuclear Power as a Climate Change Mitigation Option: a Modelling Approach

    Författare :Mariliis Lehtveer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CCS; sensitivity analysis; nuclear weapons proliferation; energy system model; nuclear power; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : Although nuclear power can provide electricity with very low life cycle carbon emissions and thus reduce the cost of climate change mitigation, it also brings along many specific challenges: accident risk, need for radioactive waste management and nuclear weapons proliferation risk. Due to this controversial nature nuclear power, among other energy forms, has been relatively little studied in a climate mitigation context. LÄS MER

  2. 12. The Underground as a Storage Facility. Modelling of Nuclear Waste Repositories and Aquifer Thermal Energy Stores

    Författare :Thomas Probert; Matematisk fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exponential decay; modelling; fractured rock; classical mechanics; quantum mechanics; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; relativity; statistical physics; thermodynamics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; klassisk mekanik; relativitet; kvantmekanik; gravitation; statistisk fysik; termodynamik; Environmental technology; pollution control; kontroll av utsläpp; Miljöteknik; conformal flow; heat as a tracer; KBS-3; stress field; temperature field; analytical solution; salt buoyancy; groundwater flow; nuclear waste repository; aquifer thermal energy storage; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Probert;

    Sammanfattning : The underground is a vast region, which is, too a large extent, unused by man. It has a large potential as a storage facility due to its vastness and availability. This thesis, which consists of eleven papers and reports, deals with nuclear waste repositories in solid rock and with aquifer thermal energy storage systems. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Applications of Gamma Ray Spectroscopy of Spent Nuclear Fuel for Safeguards and Encapsulation

    Författare :Christofer Willman; Ane Håkansson; Henrik Nylén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nuclear physics; gamma radiation; spectroscopy; spent nuclear fuel; safeguards; HRGS; MOX; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Nuclear energy is currently one of the world’s main sources of electricity. Closely connected to the use of nuclear energy are important issues such as the nonproliferation of fissile material that may potentially used in nuclear weapons (safeguards), and the management of the highly radioactive nuclear waste. 4. 14. Friction stir welding of copper canisters for nuclear waste

    Författare :Therese Källgren; Rolf Sandström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Friction Stir Welding FSW ; Copper; Welding; Finite Element Method FEM ; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Swedish model for final disposal of nuclear fuel waste is based on copper canisters as a corrosion barrier with an inner pressure holding insert of cast iron. One of the methods to seal the copper canister is to use the Friction Stir Welding (FSW), a method invented by The Welding Institute (TWI). LÄS MER

  5. 15. Metal distribution and mobility under alkaline conditions

    Författare :Mårten Dario; Bert Allard; Yngve Albinsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kemi; Adsorption; Colloids; Nuclear waste; Cement; Montmorillonite; miljökemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The adsorption of an element, expressed as its distribution between liquid (aquatic) and solid phases in the biogeosphere, largely determines its mobility and transport properties. This is of fundamental importance in the assessment of the performance of e.g. geologic repositories for hazardous elements like radionuclides. LÄS MER
