1. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 2. Effects of Mobile Phone Radiation upon the Mammalian Brain
Sammanfattning : oday about half of the world's population owns the microwave producing mobile phones. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) protects the mammalian brain from potentially harmful substances circulating in the blood. LÄS MER
3. Neurochemical and cognitive aftermaths of surgery - studies on short- and long-term effects of surgery and anesthesia
Sammanfattning : Background: Each year, around the world, more than 230 million patients have surgery. Improvements in healthcare have resulted in older and sicker patients undergoing surgical interventions. As a result, surgical safety has be-come a global public-health concern. LÄS MER
4. Cellular and molecular mechanisms of ischemic brain damage in hyperglycemic rats
Sammanfattning : The present study is centered on mechanisms of ischemic brain damage in hyperglycemic animals, and in those in which exaggerated intraischemic acidosis was induced by superimposed hypercapnia in normoglycemic animals. The initial experiments were focussed on the pathophysiology of postischemic seizures. LÄS MER
5. Inflammation and neuroprotective strategies in the immature brain after hypoxic-ischemic brain injury
Sammanfattning : Perinatal brain injury, as a result of hypoxia-ischemia (HI) or infection/HI, is a major cause of acute mortality and neurological morbidity in infants and children. The mechanisms of perinatal HI are not fully understood, which makes it difficult to find effective treatment. LÄS MER
