16. Genus Brachyspira in birds : phenotypes, phylogeny and pathogenicity
Sammanfattning : Spirochaetes of genus Brachyspira colonize the large intestine of some mammals and birds, and cause intestinal disease and production losses in pigs and chickens. The precise significance of Brachyspira spp. colonization in birds, the bacterial species involved, and the epidemiology are incompletely understood. LÄS MER
17. Avian Influenza Virus : Deciphering receptor interactions and their role in interspecies transmission
Sammanfattning : Influenza A virus (IAV) annually infects approximately 5–15 % of the human population, causing ~500,000 deaths globally. Novel IAVs have emerged and spread pandemically in the human population, but have over time established endemic circulation with reduced pathogenicity causing seasonal influenza. The natural reservoir of IAVs is wild waterfowl. LÄS MER
18. Resistance to neuraminidase inhibitors in influenza A virus isolated from mallards
Sammanfattning : Influenza A virus belongs to the Orothomyxoviridae family of viruses and is one of the most common pathogens that cause infections of the respiratory tract. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if neuraminidase inhibitor (NAI) Tamiflu® (oseltamivir, OC) and Relenza® (zanamivir, ZA) - related resistance mutations exist in the neuraminidase (NA) gene of viruses collected from wild birds. 19. Epidemiology and population structure of Campylobacter jejuni and related organisms in wild birds
Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni is one of the most common causes to bacterial gastroenteritis in the industrialised world. Also other species of the Campylobacter genus give rise to human infections. C. jejuni occurs in many different animal hosts and can be isolated from water sources. LÄS MER
