  1. 36. Applying the Pump and Leak Hypothesis. An experimental and theoretical investigation of the principles of ion regulation and excitability in the crustacean stretch receptor neuron

    Författare :Sten Theander; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []

    Sammanfattning : An invertebrate nerve cell preparation, the lobster stretch receptor neuron, was investigated with respect to maintenance of its resting voltage, intracellular ion concentrations and excitability using voltage clamp technique and ion-selective microelectrodes. It was found that the resting voltage (-65 mV) of microelectrode impaled cells is caused by (a) a homogenous population of K+ channels which we denoted as leak channels (b) an electrogenic and voltage-dependent Na-K pump current and (c) an inward microelectrode-induced "impalement" current carried mainly by Na+. 2. 37. Signal Transduction of Glucagon Secretion

    Författare :Elaine Vieira; Erik Gylfe; Lena Eliasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; secretion; glucagon; store-operated channels; calcium; diabetes; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is a bihormonal disorder with hyperglycemia due to deficiency of insulin and hypersecretion of glucagon. To improve diabetes treatment it is important to clarify the signal transduction of glucagon secretion. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Charge carrier transport in field-effect transistors with two-dimensional electron gas channels studied using geometrical magnetoresistance effect

    Författare :Isabel Harrysson Rodrigues; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; low-field mobility; high-electron-mobility transistor; velocity saturation; quasi-ballistic charge carrier transport; two-dimensional electron gas; charge carrier scattering mechanisms; geometrical magnetoresistance; low noise and high frequency applications; velocity peak; graphene field-effect transistor; charge carrier trans- port;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decades, significant efforts have been made to exploit the excellent and promising electronic properties exhibited by field-effect transistors (FETs) with two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) channels. The most prominent representatives of this class of devices are high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) and graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs). LÄS MER

  4. 39. New aspects of voltage-gated calcium channel regulation in pancreatic beta-cells - Relevance for insulin release and type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Thomas Reinbothe; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; voltage-gated calcium channels; L-type; insulin secretion; type 2 diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Voltage-gated Ca2+ channels are essential transducers of cellular signals in many electrically excitable cells. In the pancreatic beta-cell they mediate controlled Ca2+ influx, which is the final trigger for Ca2+ dependent release (exocytosis) of the blood glucose lowering hormone insulin. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Development and regulation of alveolar fluid clearance in the guinea pig

    Författare :Andreas Norlin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxytocin-induced preterm labor; IRDS; fetal lung fluid; preterm lung development; amiloride-sensitive sodium channels; beta-adrenergic stimulation; alveolar epithelium; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Alveolar fluid clearance is driven by active absorption of Na+ across the alveolar epithelium. Development and hormonal regulation of alveolar fluid clearance over 1 hour was studied by instillation of a protein-containing, isosmolar fluid into lungs of fetal, newborn, and adult guinea pigs.
