  1. 1. Induced hypothermia after cardiac arrest

    Författare :Niklas Nielsen; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; complications; evidence; neurological outcome; survival; induced hypothermia; cardiac arrest; randomised trial; heart arrest;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on studies of the clinical use of induced hypothermia as an intervention to reduce mortality and neurological impairment after cardiac arrest. After the publication of two trials indicating benefit of induced hypothermia, we developed a registry to assess outcome, possible adverse events and conduct of induced hypothermia when this intervention was implemented in a clinical population of cardiac arrest patients. 2. 2. Development and Applications of in vitro Models to Study Human Brain Evolution and Disease

    Författare :Daniela Grassi; Molekylär neurogenetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neural reprogramming; Neural differentiation; Brain development; Huntington s disease; Induced Neuron; Neural Progenitor Cell; Brain evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Neuroscience focusing on human development and disease has long been hampered due to ethical reasons, low tissue availability, and low translatability from animal models. To circumvent these obstacles, we have developed two methods for the investigation of human neural cells in culture. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of CNS inflammation upon T cell interaction with CNS resident cells

    Författare :Ingrid Teige; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuron; glia; CNS; T cell; cytokine; immunoregulation; MS; EAE;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple Sclerosis (MS), is a neurologic, autoimmune disease characterized by CNS immune cell infiltration and demyelination. To experimentally study MS, we have utilized the mouse model Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE). EAE is induced through immunization with myelin antigens, which elicits an autoreactive Th1 cell response. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A stargazer's guide to neurodegeneration : Astrocytes' role in the propagation of pathological proteins

    Författare :Tobias Mothes; Anna Erlandsson; Martin Ingelsson; Linn Streubel-Gallasch; Maria Grazia Spillantini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer’s disease; Parkinson’s disease; tauopathies; astrocyte; microglia; neuron; tau; amyloid-β; α-synuclein; accumulation; degradation; inflammation; spreading; seeding.; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are characterized by brain accumulation of pathogenic protein aggregates. In the AD brain, amyloid-β (Aβ) and tau form plaques respective tangles, while in the PD brain α-synuclein (α-syn) form Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neuron-to-neuron propagation of neurodegenerative proteins; relation to degradative systems

    Författare :Jakob Domert; Martin Hallbeck; Jan Marcusson; Lars Tjernberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell-to-cell transfer; beta-amyloid; Alzheimer s disease; degradation; proteasome; alpha-synuclein; Parkinson s disease; high throughput screening model;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are defined by neurodegeneration and accumulations of misfolded proteins that spread through the brain in a well characterized manner. In AD these accumulations consist mainly of β-amyloid (Aβ) and tau, while in PD, α-synuclein (α-syn) make up the characteristic lewy pathology. LÄS MER
