  1. 1. Direct and indirect mechanisms for aryl hydrocarbon receptor activation mediated by 6-formylindolo[3,2-b]carbazole

    Författare :Emma Wincent; Ulf Rannug; Agneta Rannug; Christopher Bradfield; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; Toxikologi; toxikologisk genetik; Genetic Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is mostly recognized for mediating the adverse effects of dioxins. In addition, endogenous activation of the AhR seems to have important biological functions.  Several studies have demonstrated an activation of the receptor when no exogenous ligand was added. 2. 2. Genetic Aspects of Environmental Disturbances in Marine Ecosystems : Studies of the Blue Mussel in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Josefine Larsson; Mats Grahn; Inger Porsch-Hällström; Katarzyna Smolarz; Andrew Whitehead; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Blue mussel; Baltic Sea; anthropogenic disturbance; pollution; sewage effluents; harbors; genetics; genomics; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic environmental changes can serve as drivers for evolutionary responses in wild populations. To predict the long-term impact of anthropogenic changes on populations, it is crucial to understand the genetic effects caused by these disturbances. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on intrinsic and extrinsic sources of variability in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

    Författare :Johanna Mercke Odeberg; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxikologi; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; genetic polymorphisms UGT1A-and MDR1 gene ; indirect response model; desmopressin; oral lipid based formulations; farmaci; Farmakologi; toxicology; farmakognosi;

    Sammanfattning : Variability in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters between individuals can be due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. In this thesis three different areas regarding sources of variability have been investigated. 1. Formulation properties as an extrinsic source of variability. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genomic and Peptidomic Characterization of the Developing Avian Brain

    Författare :Birger Scholz; Lennart Dencker; Eric Vilain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; Sex differentation; Sex determination; Sex chromosomes; Dosage Compensation; Genetic; Chickens; Coturnix; Gene Expression Profiling; Neuropeptides; Diencephalon; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Chicken and Japanese quail are commonly used models in developmental and sex specific neuroendocrine research. There is relatively little known about the mechanisms behind their sex specific brain development, especially regarding the impact of the sex chromosomes (male: ZZ, female ZW) in relation to gonadal hormones. 5. 5. Evolving the Methodology for Detection of Primary DNA Damage : Development, adaptation and assessment of the single cell gel electrophoresis (comet) assay

    Författare :Erik Bivehed; Björn Hellman; Hanna Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Comet assay; DNA damage; DNA strand breaks; Flash-comet; Genotoxicity; In vitro; Single cell gel electrophoresis; Polymerase assisted DNA damage assay PADDA ; TK6 cells; UCDAS; U937 cells; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is one of the most important molecules in nature. It is the fundamental carrier of evolutionary information and constitutes the genetic blueprint of all living organisms. Being the sole source of information, it is vital for the cell to transmit the correct genetic information from generation to generation. LÄS MER
