  1. 1. Gut peptides in gastrointestinal motility and mucosal permeability

    Författare :Md. Abdul Halim; Webb Dominic-Luc; Per M Hellström; Lars Fändriks; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Gut regulatory peptides; Neuropeptides; Gastrointestinal mucosal permeability; Gastrointestinal motility; GLP-1; NPS; ROSE-010;

    Sammanfattning : Gut regulatory peptides, such as neuropeptides and incretins, play important roles in hunger, satiety and gastrointestinal motility, and possibly mucosal permeability. Many peptides secreted by myenteric nerves that regulate motor control are also produced in mucosal epithelial cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular associations and transport properties of amphiphiles and gastrointestinal mucin in aqueous solution

    Författare :Géraldine Lafitte; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; transport properties; diffusion NMR; Magnetic resonance imaging; Physical chemistry; hydrophobic association; electrostatic repulsion; gel; Mucin; Surfactant;

    Sammanfattning : An effective uptake/absorption of drug formulations involve many processes; one being the transport of the active molecule through the mucus layer. The mucus layer is a complex mixture of biological molecules. Among them, mucin is the molecule that mainly provides the gel properties of the layer. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cardiorespiratory function of euryhaline teleosts - Regulatory mechanisms, effects of warming and costs of osmoregulation

    Författare :Daniel Morgenroth; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; salinity; temperature; cardiac; vascular; gastrointestinal; acclimation; growth;

    Sammanfattning : Teleost fishes have colonized almost every aquatic habitat on earth and exhibit adaptations that allow them to thrive in environments with very diverse physico-chemical properties. One fundamental environmental variable in aquatic ecosystems is salinity, as most fish species are only able to tolerate a narrow range of salinities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of ion transport in the gastrointestinal tract : aspects of early development

    Författare :Lena Grahnquist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Gastrointestinal transport; early development; ontogeny; ion; sodium; potassium; H ; K -ATPase; Na - K - 2Cl- cotransporter; barium-sensitive potassium channels; Na ; K -; ATPase; dopamine; angiotensin II; glucocorticoids; rat; human;

    Sammanfattning : Ion transport in the gastrointestinal tract is vital for cellular homeostasis and to ensure growth during ontogeny. We have therefore investigated the regulation and maturation of sodium, potassium and hydrogen transport in the gastrointestinal tract. Net jejunal sodium absorption is significantly higher in young as compared to adult rats. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Membrane transport and the human small intestine : Relation to mucosal protection, intestinal anaphylaxis and nitric oxide

    Författare :Tina W. Knutson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; albumin; bicarbonate secretion; carbonic anhydrase; dopamine; duodenum; histamine; humans; hyaluronan; intestinal anaphylaxis; intestinal obstruction; jejunum; lidocaine; LOC-I-GUT; nitecapone; nitric oxide; potential difference; prostaglandins; segmental intestinal perfusion; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : The tightly adherent monolayer of epithelial cells that line the luminal side of the intestine provides a dynamic and highly regulated barrier to the passive and active transport of ions, water and macromolecules. Cathecol-O-methyl transferase inhibition prevents tissue degradation of catecholaminesincluding dopamine and intracellular carbonic anhydrase activity is an important regulator of ion and water transport in the small intestine.
