1. Cardiac hypertrophy : transcription patterns, hypertrophic progression and extracellular signalling
Sammanfattning : Background: The aim of this thesis was to study transcription patterns and extracellular signalling of the hypertrophic heart to better understand the mechanisms initiating, controlling and maintaining cardiac hypertrophy.Cardiac hypertrophy is a risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. 2. Aspects on Cardiac Pumping
Sammanfattning : Cardiac pumping physiology is important for understanding the pathophysiology of patients with cardiac disease. MRI gives the opportunity to measure volumes and flow non-invasively with high accuracy and precision. This thesis examines some aspects on cardiac pumping physiology. LÄS MER
3. S100B and Cardiac Surgery
Sammanfattning : The brain-derived protein S100B is a 21 Kda dimerand have been used as a serum marker for brain damage of different etiology. The feasability of protein S100B as serum marker for brain damage after cardiac surgery was studied in this thesis. One unexpected finding was made, which changed the basis for interpration of S100B levels. LÄS MER
4. Cardiac involvement in familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy
Sammanfattning : Familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy (FAP) is a neuropathic form of heredofamilial systemic amyloidosis. Clusters of patients have been reported predominantly from Portugal, Japan and Sweden. The present study examines the involvement of the heart in individuals with the Swedish variety of FAP. LÄS MER
5. Physiology of Adventure Racing : with emphasis on circulatory response and cardiac fatigue
Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to elucidate the circulatory responses to ultra-endurance exercise (Adventure Racing), and furthermore, to contribute to the clarification of the so called “exercise-induced cardiac fatigue” in relation to said exercise. An Adventure race (AR) varies in duration from six hours to over six days, in which the participants have to navigate through a number of check-points over a pre-set course, using a combination of three or more endurance/outdoor sports, e.
