  1. 11. Lung cancer in males : an epidemiological study in northern Sweden with special regard to smoking and occupation

    Författare :Lena Damber; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; case-control study; epidemiology; lung cancer; occupational risk; factors; smoking; radon; cell types; validity;

    Sammanfattning : In a case-control study comprising 589 cases of male lung cancer in northern Sweden longitudinal data concerning occupations, employments and smoking habits were collected by questionnaires.Pipe smoking was as common as cigarette smoking and gave very similar relative risk. 2. 12. Complementary and alternative medicine in cancer : from utilization to a randomized controlled trial

    Författare :Kathrin Wode; Per Fransson; Roger Henriksson; Lena Sharp; Johanna Hök Nordberg; Vinjar Magne Fønnebø; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; epidemiology; evidence-based medicine; neoplasms; pancreatic neoplasms; adult; integrative oncology; complementary therapies; treatment refusal; communication; physician-patient relations; mistletoe; palliative care; quality of life; cross-sectional studies; qualitative research; randomized controlled trial; Sweden; Europe; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) are non-conventional health care approaches used in parallel with or instead of conventional medicine. Little is known about Swedish patients’ patterns of complementary CAM use in the context of cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Molecular epidemiology approach : nested case-control studies in glioma and lymphoid malignancies

    Författare :Florentin Späth; Beatrice S. Melin; Carl Wibom; Ann Sofie Johansson; Ingvar Bergdahl; Ola Landgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; B cell lymphoma; multiple myeloma; risk; repeated samples; prospective longitudinal study; nested case-control study; circulating sEGFR and sERBB2; circulating immune markers and growth factors; marker disease association; disease progression; NSHDS; Janus; linear mixed modeling; epidemiologi; Epidemiology; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Nested case-control studies aim to link molecular markers with a certain outcome. Repeated prediagnostic samples may improve the evaluation of marker-disease associations. However, data regarding the benefit of repeated samples in such studies are sparse. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Antibiotics use in relation to colorectal cancer risk, survival and postoperative complications

    Författare :Sai San Moon Lu; Bethany van Guelpen; Sophia Harlid; Jonas Ludvigsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; antibiotics; gut microbiome; dysbiosis; cancer-specific survival; surgical site infections; anastomotic leakage; register-based epidemiology; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi; Oncology; onkologi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Growing evidence suggests that antibiotic-induced dysbiosis of gut microbiota potentially contributes to colorectal cancer development and oncological outcomes. However, the role of antibiotics in colorectal cancer incidence, survival and postoperative outcomes at a population level remains incompletely understood. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The Molecular Epidemiology of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

    Författare :Johan Isaksson; Johan Botling; Eva Brandén; Hirsh Koyi; Aija Knuuttila; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NSCLC; Lung Cancer; Epidemiology; Genetics; KRAS; Pathology; Biomarkers; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to explore the role of a spectrum of biomarkers, for disease classification or predictors of treatment outcomes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Paper I examined the impact of systemic inflammation on the clinical outcome of NSCLC patients.
