  1. 1. Diet and Cardiometabolic Disease : Dietary trends and the impact of diet on diabetes and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Benno Krachler; Bernt Lindahl; Göran Hallmans; Mats Eliasson; Ingvar Bosaeus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Cross-sectional study; Cross-sectional survey; Diet; Dietary intake; Dietary survey; Food consumption; Food frequency; Milk; MONICA; Sweden; Body Mass Index; Hip circumference; Waist circumference; Diabetes; Metabolic syndrome; Cardiometabolic syndrome; Cardiovascular disease; Erythrocyte Membrane; Fatty Acids; Membrane Lipids; Fatty acid desaturases; Pentadecanoic acid; Heptadecanoic acid; Lignan; Enterolactone; Dietary Fibre; Physical activity; Education; Smoking; Alcohol; Medicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in most industrialised countries and in developing countries the trend in cardiovascular-related deaths is increasing. World-wide, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an emerging cause of disability and premature death. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Leptin : a risk marker for cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Stefan Söderberg; Ulf de Faire; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; leptin; testosterone; dysfibrinolysis; hyperinsulinemia; insulin resistance syndrome; menopause; cardiovascular disease; MONICA; epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : A major cause of morbidity and early death in the Western societies is cardiovascular disease (CVD) secondary to atherosclerotic disease. Metabolic aberrations have been linked to CVD. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Importance of peripheral arterial disease as a risk marker in patients with myocardial infarction

    Författare :Birgitta Jönelid; Christina Christersson; Nina Johnston; Bertil Lindahl; Bertil Andrén; Lena Jonasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Coronary heart disease; Peripheral artery disease; Polyvascular disease; Inflammatory biomarkers; TNFR-1; TNFR-2; GDF-15; Cardiovascular events.; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to describe the true prevalence of widespread arterial disease in a cohort with patients with a recent myocardial infarction (MI) to find valuable clinical methods to detect these patients. Our aim was also to investigate biomarker relationships with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and the importance of PAD in patients’ long-term outcomes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Complex disease genetics : Utilising targeted sequencing and homogeneous ancestry

    Författare :Argyri Mathioudaki; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Panagiotis Deloukas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ankylosing spondylitis; breast cancer; targeted sequencing; Sweden; genetics; population stratification.; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The complex disease investigations presented in this thesis aimed to provide new information regarding underlying genetics by using targeted sequencing and ethnically homogeneous cohorts. This work moved past current methodologies and addressed data stratification issues, that might have been hindering new findings. 5. 5. Molecular epidemiology approach : nested case-control studies in glioma and lymphoid malignancies

    Författare :Florentin Späth; Beatrice S. Melin; Carl Wibom; Ann Sofie Johansson; Ingvar Bergdahl; Ola Landgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; B cell lymphoma; multiple myeloma; risk; repeated samples; prospective longitudinal study; nested case-control study; circulating sEGFR and sERBB2; circulating immune markers and growth factors; marker disease association; disease progression; NSHDS; Janus; linear mixed modeling; epidemiologi; Epidemiology; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Nested case-control studies aim to link molecular markers with a certain outcome. Repeated prediagnostic samples may improve the evaluation of marker-disease associations. However, data regarding the benefit of repeated samples in such studies are sparse. LÄS MER
